Welcome Back! This year we have targeted for your child to have read 20 books of their choice by the end of the school year. I feel students need "choice" and especially since they will have very few when it comes to reading in their content areas, ie., Math, Science and Social Studies. I want them to enjoy reading as well as help them acquire the reading strategies to comprehend the books they read in their content areas. As your child gets older the material in their content areas becomes harder to read and comprehend, they will use these strategies to gain the meaning and understanding they need.
I am available afterschool on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 2:15 p.m. until 3:15 p.m.
Students are required to bring their pen/pencil, notebook and agenda book on a daily basis. If your child loses his or her agenda book, you may purchase another one for $5 in the guidance department.
Students will have homework on a daily basis with the exception of weekend's. Therefore homework will not be assigned on Friday's. Students are however expected to keep up with their reading in order to meet the 20 book goal.
Next week all students will have the opportunity to visit the library and choose their first book. I will be providing a "Reading Log" in which they can setup a reading schedule for themselves by chapter or pages a night. Please look out for them!
