May Schedule:
Grade 5:
Students are presently at the review stages of what will likely be our last unit
that involves a test grade for the year. This is our remakes unit. The review cycle will begin on 05/08 and end on 05/14. The test cycle will begin on 05/15 and end on 05/21.
Grade 4:
A recorder quiz will be given to students in grades 3-4 in order to test their knowledge
of important aspects of playing the instrument such as hand and finger positions. Students are in the process of playing a solo on their feature piece for Night of the Arts, Answering Machine Blues. Final preparations for this annual event are taking place now with the evening to be held on 05/11/09 at Blackrock and 05/21/09 at Western.
Grade 3:
While it was not my original plan to have third graders play solos in class for a rade, I have concluded that they’ve made enough progress with their recorders to do just that. Students can choose from the three pieces we’re working on so that they play the piece they’re strongest on with an eye toward getting the best grade possible. Students who believe that it will be too difficult to play in front of the class may choose to play for me in private, but I would ask that they talk with parents first and that the parents make contact with me to request this. Most third graders should do fine given that they’re able to choose their piece. Please see the fourth grade schedule for information on the recorder quiz currently being given to students in grades 3 and four.
