The children had a fun-filled week waiting for Phil's prediction and celebrating the 100th. day of school on Thursday.  Please refer to the monthly letter sent home last week detailing what will be happening throughout February.
Our Valentine Day party will be Thursday afternoon. Moms should have called asking for donations. Thanks in advance for your generosity. This week we will be setting up a post office in our room where the chidren will stamp their cards and then mail them.  The workers will then cancel stamps sort the cards according to shape (zip codes) and then sort according to name before delivering them to the mailbag of each child.  They do enjoy this activity and come to understand the mail processs and all that is involved.

The week ahead:
Reading/Language Arts/Writing:the initial and medial sound of the vowel "Uu"; now we know 4 of the 5 vowels so the children will be able to blend many more words after this week; the word "do" and the skill of comparing and contrasting.
Math: addition continues using a ten frame and reviewing vertical addition
Religion: Lent-a time to grow and change. We will begin discussing Jesus' great sacrifice for us as we learn about this season.
Social Studies: President Lincoln and the post office

Monday: no library
Tuesday: Gym and Art
Wednesday: Gym
Thursday: Music and Valentine party
Friday: Library; Spanish; Show and Tell

Enjoy the vacation next week. God bless you.

****Please keep in your prayers a former student of mine, Amanda Villeneuve and her 7 month old baby who perished in the fire in Warwick on Saturday. She was my second grade student at St. Philip School and one that I truly enjoyed teaching.  May she and her baby, Abigail, rest in peace in heaven.
