Autumn is here! What a beautiful ride route 295 is because of the colors of the leaves. November is here!
Grade 6 Science: We finished our unit on plants. In our next unit we will study animals and their behavior. We will view the video Animals and their behavior. We will look at a mollusk and an earthworm which we will dissect. Students will be doing a project on an unusual animal. They need to pick one out and have it approved by me. They will need to make that animal and its environment. They can use any material to make the animal and its environment. A shoe box is a good object in which to make an environment. Materials need to be in by Thursday, November 12, 2009 because the students will be building this in clss. Due date has not been given out because it depends on how much is accomplished in school.
Math Grade 6: We are working on an Algebra unit. We will be finishing this unit probably next week. Students are solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign. They are solving example problems from the 9th grade algebra book.
Grade 7: The students in Grade 7 have been divided into 2 groups: pre-algebra 1 & 2. Pre-algebra 1 is covering properties & order of operation. Pre-algebra 2 is covering fractals, patterns, area & perimeter, and sequences. They are designing a quilt that has a pattern. They are working on this in class. It is due Friday, November 13, 2009.
Grade 7 is studying natural disasters. We are studying earthquakes. They are working on many activities such as making a richter scale & a pop up earthquake.
Grade 8 is studying the periodic table. They will receive a packet with many tasks to complete. Some of these include a timeline, graph of the elements of the body, making a periodic table, a test on the symbols of the elements, playing the element game, and making a family of elements poster. The students will be responsible for budgeting their class time to complete the tasks. A due date will be given once all tasks are passed out.
