Welcome to the very short month of February. This is a regular week with a spelling test and a booklet due on Friday. This Friday, we will also celebrate Valentine's Day. The children can bring in cards only for their classmates. The 4 families that volunteered to bring in goodie bags for this event will have those ready for the childen on Friday. If possible, we will get together with our buddies. We are able to be more flexible so we have to see if their schedule is free.
There is only one book report due this month. It is due Feb. 26th. The forms went home last week. It can be done on any type of book. It should be about 50-60 pages. Next month, there will be 2 due. One will be a regular book report and will be due on the 18th of March. The other one is to be done on dinosaurs. It will be due on March 29th. A fictional book works better but a factual one can be adapted. I will send home the forms at the beginning of next month. We will be studying dinosaurs in March.
We are in the process of sharing habitat boxes and reports. The children are doing very well. I send home the boxes after presentation but I will keep the reports until after vacation.
In math, we are working on facts, money, and time. Over vacation, try to make opportunities for your child to count money and tell time. They should tell you the time in several different ways. Also practice how much time has passed and telling time before and after the hour.
We have been working very hard on writing in grade 2. We recently completed a poem for a contest writing about the Ocean. We were only able to submit one entry. With the help of other teachers, I selected Amanda D'Amico's as the entry to represent the class. Good luck to Amanda. We also had a very nice book of Haiku Poetry on display at Barnes and Noble. Each child in the class had written at least 4 poems for it.
First Penance will take place on Feb. 26th. As far as I know, it will be at 1:00 unless Bishop Evans tells me differently. If you are planning on being present, please sit in the main part of the church. I will have your child visit you briefly when we come to church and then I will send them out to you after their confession to say their penance with you.
When we return from vacation, I will test the children on their ability to type accurately without looking at the computer keyboard. It will be a little contest. They should practice this over vacation.
I will be rewarding the children with a little in school breakfast on the 26th (unless confession is moved to the morning). They earned it by fillilng our bell jar for good behaviors.
