Happy Monday!:

Welcome to the week of February 6:
I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and that our home team, The Patriots, will come to be Super Bowl Champions!

Here are our projected activities for this week:

Math: This week we will be continuing with division. We will be learning about number patterns, 1-digit quotients, and rules for divisibility. It would be a good thing if the children could practice their division facts nightly.

Religion: This week we will finish up chapter 4 so their test on that chapter will be Thursday. However, please check agendas in case there is a change. The children did a super job on their test on the "Memorare."   Our new prayer for February will be "The Act of Love." We will recite it everyday so that by February 29, we will know it well!

Social Studies: As a class, the children did a terrific job on their test on the Northeast! On Monday we begin the Southeast. We will start by learning the general location and the states and capitals. As the week goes on we will be making a graphic relief map of the region and flash cards of the states and capitals. The students will learn that this region is quite different from their own.

Science: We have finished our study of earth materials. The children learned a great deal and had a lot of fun! We are now ready to move on to a study of water and where it can be found on the planet. We will also be studying the oceans as time goes on.

Vocabulary: This week we will learn the words of unit 11. As usual, the vocabulary and spelling test will be Friday.

Language Arts:
Writing/Grammar: This week we will be finishing up our study of nouns. We will finish up our study of singular and plural possessives, take our unit review, and be ready for our test on Friday. The children will be bringing home this unit review to study for their test.

Reading: Both groups will be assigned their next independent reading book entitled "Abe Lincoln for Class President." We will spend some time learning about Lincoln on Monday. This book will be due the Thursday before February vacation.

Orange group: This group has finished their story entitled "And Then What Happened Paul Revere." Their skills included the author's viewpoint and the use of apostrophes. To further practice the skill of an author's viewpoint, they will be reading and discussing the biography of Mercy Warren. Their test on "Paul Revere" is scheduled for Thursday.

Purple group: This group has just about finished their story entitled "The Hatmaker's Sign." We will finish up their skill of making judgements and decisions, summarizing and suffixes. Their test is also scheduled for Thursday.

Please remember that the students' next reading logs are due on Monday along with their library books.

Also, the school is still collecting boxtops, so any that you are able to send in would be much appreciated! The children so want to win a night of no homework!

Thank you for making our Catholic School Week a great success! With all the children's wonderful activities, we really had a great week!

Here's to our next wonderful week of learning!
