**The famous Black American project involves reading an entire book at your child's reading level, and will fulfill the requirement for the February book report. There will be no date extensions, so those students going away for vacation will need to work on their projects ahead of time, or when they return.
3. Language Arts--Our usual spelling test will be given on Friday, and the advanced vocabulary group will complete unit 13 for Wednesday. In grammar, we will study the function of helping verbs and begin out study of irregular verbs, and in phonics, we will explore words with R-controlled vowels.
4. Math--The Math Facts Fun Challenge test was given last Monday, and many students successfully completed the assessment with a 5! Congratulations! Other students are busy studying and copying the facts that were wrong to complete this requirement. We will begin work with simple division this week, and flash cards will be distributed to the children. Again, please have your child practice these facts daily, for ten minutes, for mastery.
5. Science--We will study the causes and effects of hurricanes and floods on the environment.
6. Social Studies--We are working on our Black History unit, and the children have received the requirements for their next project. This will also count as the book report acitivity for the month of February.
7. Handwriting--We have finally been introduced to all the lower case letters, and will be working diligently on writing in cursive for all our work. As we learn the capital letters, students can copy the capital letters from their alphabets, or just use a printed capital letter until all upper cases letters have been learned. The children are very proud of their achievement so far, and pleases be patient with their efforts--they still have a long way to go for complete mastery!!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, as we a partnership, with your child's best interests at heart!! Have a blessed week!
