Thank you to all of the parent volunteers that helped make our Halloween celebration so fun for the third grade. We are getting very excited for our Plymouth Plantation field trip on November 26, 2008. If you have not submitted your permission slip please do so as soon as possible. There will be no school on November 10th and 11th (just a reminder). The next few weeks are as follows:
Spelling: Unit #10 . This unit focusses on the concept of the vowel sound in lawn. The list will be 20 words this week. There are 16 words in the unit and 4 will come from Reading. We begin the week with writing out our list. Each day there will be a spelling homework. Mondays 3x each, Tuesday spelling sentences, Wednesday syllables or dictionary work, Thursdays abc order. Friday will be our Spelling Test.
D.O.L.: This continues to be a daily practice in our oral and written language. Although I have seen marked improvements with the students writing and grammar usage, there are still skills that need to be improved. I will be circling incorrect responses and have asked the children to bring the packets home, fix them, and bring them back for review Please take the time to look out for these corrected assignments in your communication folders. Thank you for your anticipated support with this specific skill.
Math: We have begun Ch. 3 which includes the objectives of four different meanings of subtraction, subtraction of two and three digit numbers, estimation, and as always problem solving. We will continue with our P.O.D. (Problem Of The Day) before each Math lesson. I will keeep you posted on a Chapter 3 Test.
Social Studies: Chapter Two is well underway. This unit is all about Geography. We have been discussing a variety of landforms that are found all over the U.S.A. Quiz your child, ask them what type of landforms are in our area. I am hoping to test on this chapter before Thanksgiving break.
The unit includes The Land Around Us. Please study the vocabulary with your chidren. The terms are: climate, desert, natural resources, and pollution.
Science: We love Science!! Chapter 2 is all about animals. We have been busy classifying different animals and learning the difference between Vertebrates and Invertebrates. This is a fun unit and the children really get excited to share about their favorite animals.. This unit will end with an Animal report. Do not worry... I walk them through the entire process and will keep you updated as to information that I need on your end as it arises.
Reading/LA: We are begining Unit 2. The theme is Traditions. Great timing seeing as though the holidays are around the corner. Please continue to read and respond. This is so important for strenghthening comprehension skills. Thank You.
Also I would like to thank Nanci Campopiano for bringing in a very special shawl to show the class. It reall related to our "Talking Cloth" selection.
Writing: Six Trait Writing is a workshop that we hold on Friday afternoons. Letter Writing will be our focus next week.
Religion: Remember to pray everyday. As your children have probably told you, I have been asked to teach seventh grade religion. Mrs. Sousa joins third grade for their religion class.
As always if you have any questions please contact me either by email , a note , a phone call etc...
We have raised enough money to go to Plymouth Plantations for FREE! If you would like to chaperone the cost will be $14.50 and please be sure to have a BCI check. Thank you, Thank you.
God Bless,
Mrs. Pereira
