Welcome To Ms. Gorton's Literacy Classroom's Page!

Welcome back!

We are in the final stretch of the year.  All literacy students should have brought home Interim reports with an attached progress report.  Students are allowed to make up, repair and submit missing or any other assignment that was due after April vacation.

Seventh grade Literacy students have just begun reading The Boy In The Stripped Pajamas.  Students will be asked to journal connections with the narrator in an attempt to get a different perspective on the Holocaust than what they have experienced in their English Class.
Eighth grade Literacy students are currently reading the novel, The Wave and journaling in response to the text.

Grade 7 English Enrichment students completed the play “Frankenstein” and have voted to do some in class reading in small groups based upon reading interests.  They will be responsible for discussing and completing both individual and group work associated with the text they choose.
Grade 8 English Enrichment students have been working on performing a play in class.  Those students who are unable to not cause a disruption will be working independently.

Important dates:

Literacy students will return to the library on Friday, April 11th for our next internet article.

May 13th -15th 8th grade Science NECAP testing

Washington DC Trip - students leave Friday, May 16th.

English Department's Spelling Bee Finals will be held Monday May 19th.

Wednesday, May 21st is Honors Night

Band Members New Hampshire trip May 23rd!

No School Monday May 26th!  Memorial Day!
Chorus Field Trip Friday May 30th.

As a reminder, we will be going to the library again this month.  Literacy students will be working on a new article and English Enrichment students will be reviewing different types of information.  We will be going on Tuesday, May 13th and Friday, May 30th.

In the Library students are required to go on line and using a list of sources find and print an article that interests them.  They are then asked to break down the process of reading using a worksheet.  Students are not allowed to use search engines but are encouraged to take the time to think about what they may want to know about and use reliable links to attain that knowledge.

Skills students continue to utilize their time either by working on school assignments with assistance or participating in educational activities.
