All material for first semester will appear on mid year exam.

We will spend approximately one week on each story; some less.  There will be a quiz at the end of each literary period and a test at the end of the quarter

Outside reading
    5 short stories which will count as 1 book
        towards the 25 book campaign.
    Prepare a survey for each story.
    Due end of 1st Quarter.

  Writing
    Write an original fictional narrative or    
        myth.
        Final Draft 1 Test Grade
    This will be done in stages and you will be
        required to hand in each stage of the     writing process.  Each will stage will have a
        grade assigned.

    Write a Reflective Essay on your Fictional
        Narrative or myth.
    1 Quiz grade.
Additional Assignments:
    Each story will have additional class and
        homework assignments that will count towards     your grade.

    Test on all pieces of non-fiction (around 1/18)

Outside Reading
    You will choose a work of non-fiction by or
        about an American.  This can be a biography,     autobiography, essays, etc.  I will have some
        suggestions for you at the beginning of the     quarter.  We will also discuss the format your
        assessment will take.
    1 test grade (due around 1/18)
Writing
    Persuasive Essay:  In line with state  
        requirements, you will be writing a persuasive
        essay to prepare you for state testing in
        March.
    Pre-writes will be required and graded
        accordingly.
    Final draft 1 test grade.
Oral Presentation
    In line with state standards, you will be
        required to give a brief persuasive
        presentation. Don’t panic, it doesn’t hurt.  
        Really!    
    1 Test Grade.
Additional Assignment:
    Each literary piece will have additional class
        and homework assignments that will count
        towards your grade

Mid Year Exam:  Covers all of the above

Any student or parent who is interesed in helping with or participating in Drama, please contact me.  We need people to help build sets, make costumes, take care of tickets and the box offic, and help with publicity.  No experience necessary.
