Daily Assignments for the Week of:  February 5, 2012

Monday - The reading exercises completed on Friday were reviewed.  Any questions about the grading system, missing homework/work policy, notebook requirements, and extra help/credit options were discussed.  Classroom copies of the text were used to read pages 9-18.  If time permitted, students started reading pages 19-28 and defining 8 terms: Aristotle, 7 levels of classification, taxonomy, Linnaeus, 5 kingdoms, binomial nomenclature, heterotroph, and autotroph.   The homework is to finish the eight definitions. 

Tuesday – The eight classification terms were reviewed and then collected.  Copies of the information were distributed to assure that the study information for the quiz on the eight terms would be accurate.  The quiz will be on Friday and will be a fill in the blank format.  Classification Today sheets were distributed and started in class.  The homework is to finish the Classification Today sheet.  

Wednesday - Classification Today sheets were collected. The seed classification lab was introduced today and the seed inventory was taken.  The remainder of the lab will be completed in class tomorrow.   The homework is to read pages 25-31 and begin studying for the classification quiz (2/10).

Thursday - The remainder of the seed classification data was completed, the questions on side 2 were answered, and the labs were collected.  Information for the quiz was reviewed.  Any remaining time could be used to study for the quiz or complete additional science reading comprehension exercises.  The homework is to study for the classification quiz (fill-in the blank format).

Friday- Students completed the classification quiz.  We then became familiar with a taxonomic key used to identify living things by working with one that names several pine trees.  In doing so, the concepts of observing characteristics, organism identification, classification, binomial nomenclature, and key mechanics are utilized.  The completed questions are due on Tuesday.  No homework as long as all of the work for the week has been completed.

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  January 29, 2012

Monday – Incomplete dominance sheets and the off-spring lab were collected.  Directions for gathering the data for monohybrid crosses in genetic corn were discussed and students began collecting the information.   The data was used to confirm parent genotypes. The homework is to complete the cell division worksheet, work on the Genetic Corn Lab, bring in any missing books, and work on the Plant Growth Lab report.

Tuesday – Cell division sheets were collected.  The Genetic Corn Lab was completed and collected.  A review sheet for pages 94-95 was distributed, completed, and collected.  The inheritance of gender and Sex-linked traits were described.  The information was used to start the last two sets of Punnett squares on gender, colorblindness and hemophilia (Sheets 3 A and B).   The homework is to complete any late papers, work on sheets 3A and 3B, bring in any missing books, and work on the Plant Growth Lab report (due 2/1).

Wednesday- Wisconsin Fast Plant seed pods were harvested and planaria were observed/refreshed.  Students were reminded again of missing work and texts.  Class time was used to work on any missing work, the plant growth lab report, or genetic sheets 3A and 3B.  The homework is to work on any genetics assignment,  the plant growth lab report, and to bring in your cells/heredity book.

Thursday-   The plant growth lab and text books were collected.    The genetics sheet 3A and sheet 3B were completed and collected.   Students will begin Earth Science with Mrs. Israelson tomorrow or Monday (TBD).  Life Science papers will be accepted through Monday, the day that grades are exported to the office.   The homework is to complete any late papers, bring in any missing books, and complete the Plant Growth Lab report.        

Friday Welcome to Life Science! Today we discussed the basic rules of the room with regards to function and safety, the materials needed for class, the grading system, missing homework/work policy, notebook requirements, and extra help/credit options.  Two science CMT reading exercises were completed to introduce the course, our first topic, and the CMT format. The first of three textbooks was issued, needs to be covered, and can stay at home.  No homework.

 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  January 22, 2012

Monday – Discussion of Mendel and his work covered the introductory terms and concepts of heredity.  Review sheets on the topics were distributed to be worked on in class and finished for homework.   The homework is to complete the genetics sheet started in class (Probability and Heredity) and to start studying the genetics terms (copied from the board and discussed in class) for a fill-ins quiz on Thursday.

Tuesday- Homework sheets were collected and genetics terms reviewed as a study strategy.  Planaria were observed and refreshed.  Heredity was further investigated using Punnett square problems and pages 86-89.  Genetics sheet #1 was completed in class.  The homework is to read and complete both sides of genetics sheet #2. 

Wednesday – Genetics sheet #2 (incomplete dominance) was collected.  WFP were observed for day 52.  Components of the formal lab report were discussed and students can begin getting MC passes to produce the two graphs of the data.  The homework is to study the terms that have been on the board since Monday for a quiz.  The questions will be fill in the blank.

ThursdayThe genetics quiz was completed.  The inheritance of some simple human traits was discussed as we collected data from class members.  Heredity was further investigated as students determined a set of traits for an off spring using their knowledge of genetics (Patterns of Inheritance Lab).  After gathering the genotype information, a phenotype sketch was constructed and questions were started.  The homework is to work on the heredity lab questions, the plant growth lab, and any past due work.  

Friday The genetics quiz was returned.  The Heredity lab was completed and collected.  Students worked on any part of their plant growth lab report including the two graphs using excel in the media center.  Grades and missing assignment information are available on line!  No homework if all of the work for the week has been completed.  The plant growth lab is due on February 1st .

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  January 15, 2012

Monday – MLK DAY- No School

Tuesday- Today was the last amphibian work day.  Dissections, text questions, and diagrams should be finished by the end of the period.   A study tool to help with the quiz on Thursday was distributed. The homework is to study the internal and external parts of the frog for the quiz on Thursday.  The questions will be fill-ins, diagrams and phrase answers.     

Wednesday – The study tool for the quiz (distributed yesterday) was reviewed.  WFP were observed for day 45.  The planaria were observed for the 3rd time. Cells and Heredity texts were distributed.  Students read pages 76-81 and 84-85.  Discussion of Mendel and his work covered the introductory terms and concepts of heredity.  The homework is to study the internal and external parts of the frog for the quiz tomorrow.  The questions will be fill-ins, diagrams and phrase answers.   

ThursdayStudents took the frog quiz and then continued with Genetics sheet #1.  Review sheets on the topics were distributed to be worked on in class genetics terms reviewed as a study strategy.  Heredity was further investigated as Punnett square problems and pages 86-87 were studied.   The homework is to finish any remaining genetics sheet #1 questions and any past due work.  Bring in your Animals text and all animal notebook papers.   

Friday The Frog quiz was returned and students turned in their animal notebooks, Animals text, and any other past due work. WFP continue to develop their pods and were observed for day 47.  Directions and data were discussed for the plant growth lab report.  Students will prepare the line and column graphs for their data on Excel in the media center next week.  This will complete the first six sections of the formal lab report.  The completed report (with the discussion and conclusion) is due on February 1st.  Genetics sheet #2 was started.  No homework.  Check powerschool to make sure you are up to date!

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  January 8, 2012 

Monday – WFP were observed for day 36.  Regenerating planaria were observed for the third time and refreshed with spring water.  Using text pages and set of diagrams, students began investigating Romalea microptera.  The observation will be completed in class tomorrow.   The homework is to complete the Arthropoda sheet distributed last week.  

Tuesday- Homework sheets were collected.  R. microptera observations, questions, and diagrams were completed and collected.  External features of the grass frog were pointed out as students filled in a diagram of the same.   The homework is to complete to the amphibian questions for Thursday.

Wednesday- WFP were observed and recorded for day 38.  In preparation for the frog dissection, internal organs and their used were described and diagram directions were discussed. The diagrams on side two are due on Friday.  The homework is to complete the amphibian questions.   

Thursday- Amphibian homework sheets were collected.  Students located external organs on the preserved frog.  Dissection rules/directions were discussed.  Students willing to participate began the dissection (an alternate amphibian packet is available).  The lab will be continued tomorrow and on Tuesday.  The external/internal frog quiz is on Thursday, 1/19/12.   The homework (due tomorrow or Tuesday without loss of credit) is to complete the frog diagrams and to start studying for the quiz.

FridayThe frog dissection was continued.  I will be completed on Tuesday.  No new homework assigned over the long weekend. 

 

Assignments for the Week of:  January 1, 2012

Monday – Happy New Year! - No School

Tuesday –WFP were observed for day 30.  Many students have seed pods developing.  Regenerating planaria were observed, recorded, and refreshed with spring water.  Any remaining Annelida sheets were turned in and the earthworm lab should have been turned in as well.  The first Mollusca sheet was distributed and should be completed for Thursday.  It will be used on Friday to answer quiz questions.  The homework is to read pages 30-36 and answer the questions distributed in class.

Wednesday – Students were shown examples of Phylum Mollusca as characteristics were reviewed.  Mollusca power outlines were distributed and should be read and then used to answer the second sheet on mollusks.  Today’s sheets complete the packet that will be used on Friday to answer the challenge questions.   The homework is to complete both sides of the Mollusca sheet.

Thursday – Homework sheets were checked for completion and will be collected after the challenge tomorrow.  WFP were observed for day 32.  Phylum Arthropoda was introduced with a short video.  Using text pages and set of diagrams, students began investigating Romalea microptera.   The homework is to review (and finish it if you are behind!) the Mollusca packet for the mollusks challenge.

Friday – The challenge was completed and question/diagram sheets were collected in the Mollusca packet.  R. microptera labs were completed and collected.  No homework if all of the work for the week has been completed.    

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  December 18, 2011

Monday –The phylum Platyhelminthes was reviewed and the 12 terms on the reading sheet were discussed.  They will be the subject of the matching quiz tomorrow.  Every student should get a 100%!  The planaria lab, designed to observe its physical characteristics, eating behaviors, and regenerative ability, was started.  It will be continued on tomorrow.     The homework is to study the 12 planaria terms for a matching quiz tomorrow.   

 Tuesday – The planaria quiz was completed. Wisconsin fast plants were observed and recorded for day 16.  The planaria lab was completed and collected.  Students cut their planarian and will be observing the regeneration process through January.  That lab sheet stays in student folders.  Text information on segmented worms was recorded on sheets that were distributed.  The homework is to use pages 28-29 and complete the segmented worm sheet for Friday.    

Wednesday- WFP were observed for day 17.  Any remaining planaria worksheets and labs were collected.  The planaria quiz was returned yesterday.  The earthworm lab was introduced and external features were recorded.   The homework is to use pages 28-29 and complete the segmented worm sheet for Friday.  

Thursday – Directions were given to formulate hypotheses and then investigate the earthworm’s reactions to light, moisture and acetic acid.  Data collection should begin today and the completed lab will be turned in tomorrow.   The homework is to complete both sides of the sheet on segmented worms.

Friday – WFPs were observed for day 19. Segmented worm homework sheets were collected.  Earthworm labs were completed and collected.   No new homework assigned over the vacation!  Check powerschool to make sure that all past work has been completed.

 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  December 11, 2011 

Monday-Wisconsin Fast plants were observed and recorded for Day 7.  Cnidaria homework sheets, hydra diagrams, and paragraph fill-ins were collected.  Review sheets for tomorrow’s quiz were discussed.  The homework is to study for the Porifera and Cnidaria quiz.  The format will be filling in the blank.      

Tuesday –Classes were shortened due to the Universal Assessment Test.  The Porifera/Cnidaria quiz was completed.  Students with extra time read pages 25-27.  The homework is to read the Planaria handout and highlight information that defines the 12 terms on side 2.  If the terms are not defined in the reading, find their meaning on pages 25-27.

Wednesday – The quiz was returned and then collected.  WFP were observed and recorded for day 9.  Live hydra and daphnia observations were started and will continue tomorrow.  The homework is to complete both sides of the planaria worksheet for Friday (or Monday without loss of credit).

 Thursday –Live hydra/daphnia observations were completed and labs were collected.  The homework is to continue working on the planaria worksheet.

Friday – Planaria worksheets were collected.  Any remaining hydra labs were also collected.  Live planaria were observed and will be cut on Monday in order to record the regeneration process over the next few weeks.  Planaria lab sheets therefore, will be kept in student folders until the process is complete.  No homework if all of the work for the week has been completed.

 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  December 4, 2011

Monday – Plant growth lab procedures were explained and co-workers set up their experimental and control plants.  Students will be gathering data from seed germination to seed production over the next few weeks, followed by a formal lab report.  Lab partners answered the questions on page one of the lab together.  The homework is to power outline the section on sponges, pages18-20 (7 paragraphs).

Tuesday- Side 2 of the animals fill-ins sheet was completed and coral reef notes were added.  The sheet was added to student folders.   Porifera power outlines will be put into the animal notebook once lab observations are added.  Sponge lab procedures (real or not real?) were explained and students began gathering the data.  The observations will continue tomorrow.   The homework is to complete the Cnidarians worksheet distributed today for Thursday.   The Porifera and Cnidaria quiz is on Tuesday, December 13th.  The format will be filling in the blank.       

Wednesday –The sponge observations were completed and sheets added to student folder.  Prepared slides of hydra were used to diagram and locate structures.  Hydra paragraph questions were completed.  The homework is to complete the Cnidaria questions.   

Thursday – Cnidaria homework sheets and hydra paragraphs were collected.  A Porifera and Cnidaria review exercise was distributed and started.   The homework is to complete the review sheet.  The quiz is on Tuesday.

Friday –Half day for students- The assembly, dance troop performance, and program discussion will leave little class time.  Students that meet will discuss hydra characteistics.  The Porifera and Cnidaria quiz is on Tuesday.  No homework as long as all of the work for the week has been completed.

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  November 27, 2011

Monday (1, 3, 5, 7) and Tuesday (2, 4, 6, 8) – Students were reminded about any missing work for the 2nd term.  The reproduction in seed plants sheet was collected.  Four assignments for this term should be completed.  The transition from the plant kingdom to the animal kingdom was accomplished as students viewed a David Attenborough program and answered questions.  It will be completed on Wednesday.  The homework is to be sure you are up to date for the new term and collect all of your plant papers (Chapter 6) for the notebook grade.

Wednesday – The Attenborough program was completed and the information sheet was added to the plant notebook.  If time, plant notebooks were organized together and collected.  The homework is to bring your text book to class to be exchanged for the Animals text.   

Thursday – Plant textbooks were exchanged for the Animals text.  The Plant growth lab procedures were explained and co-workers were assigned to set up their experimental and control plants.  Students will be gathering data from seed germination to seed production over the next few weeks, followed by a formal lab report.  Partners completed the first page of the lab.  The homework is to read pages 10-20 of the Animals text. 

 

Friday – Animal fill-ins were completed and coral reef notes were added.  No homework.  Bring in the old textbook if you have not done so. 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  November 20, 2011

Monday – Students were reminded (AGAIN) about any missing work for the first term.  A study list for the flower quiz was distributed and discussed along with the quiz format.  Remaining time was used to finish the flower dissection questions, flower dissection lab, seed plants fill-ins, reading comprehension exercises, and to begin studying for the quiz.  The homework is to study for the flower structure/function quiz).

Tuesday – Students took the flower structure/function quiz.  Remaining time was used to complete the reading comprehension exercises, flower dissection lab, and the flower worksheet.  The homework is to complete side one of the reproduction fill-ins.

 Wednesday – The flower quiz was returned and collected. Side 2 of the flower reproduction fill-ins was completed.  The assignment was collected.  NO NEW HOMEWORK ASSIGNED OVER THE BREAK!  CATCH UP ON ANY PAST DUE, TERM 2 WORK!!

 

 

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF November 13, 2011

MONDAY- Grades for the third term close on the 17th.  Leaves questions were collected.  The remainder of the leaf lab activities were discussed and described.  Students worked on the completion of the lab.  The homework is to label the four leaves (parts, grouping, venation) on side 2 of the leaf notes.

TUESDAY- The homework (labeled leaves) was collected.  Students completed the leaf lab activities and a series of science reading comprehension exercises.  The homework is to re-read pages 138-139.  Answer the photosynthesis questions on the front of the leaves lab.  

WEDNESDAY- Photosynthesis questions were discussed and then collected.  Flower parts and their uses were introduced and work continued on the sheet after reading pages 150-152.  The homework is to finish both sides of the flower parts/uses sheet for Friday.  The flower quiz is on Tuesday(11/22).

THURSDAY- Flower parts were discussed as the flower dissection lab was introduced.  Students will use their flower parts sheet to help them identify parts of Alstroemeria (Peruvian lily) blossoms.  We will continue the lab tomorrow.  The homework is to complete both sides of the flower worksheet.  The flower structure/function quizis on Tuesday.  

FRIDAY-The flower parts/uses sheet could be turned in today or Monday without loss of credit.  The flower dissection was completed and the lab was collected.  Reading comprehension exercises were also completed.    No homework as long as all the work for the week has been completed.  Check powerschool!  The flower parts/uses quiz in on Tuesday.

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of: November 6, 2011

Monday – “Snow Day” # 7

Tuesday – Election Day: No School

Wednesday – “Snow Day” #8

Thursday – Students made their last observation for seed germination and lab sheets were placed in student folders.  Data for the root and stem water content investigation was also recorded, calculations were described, and conclusions were completed.  The homework is to complete the leaf information sheet.

Friday- Some classes were shortened (60 minute assembly schedule) in observance of Veterans’ Day.  Leaf questions were collected and the distributed leaves notes were discussed.  Leaf lab activities were introduced on side two of the photosynthesis sheet (also diatributed).  The labeled leaves are due Tuesday and the photosynthesis questions are due Wednesday.  We will continue with the lab on Monday.  Grades for the first term close on November 17th!  No homework if all of the work to date has been completed.  Continue to check powerschool for any missing work!  Wear PINK on the 14th!

 

 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  October 23, 2011

Monday –Corn/bean life cycle sheets were collected.  Students began working on the lab observations of roots on the roots/stems information sheet.  The homework is to complete the monocots and dicots information sheet.  The roots and stems quiz is on Thursday and students can use their information sheet on the matching, phrase, and fill in the blank format! 

Tuesday – Many corn and bean seeds showed signs of germination.  Observations were recorded for day 4.  Students then continued with the roots and stems classroom observations and information sheet.  The homework is to finish the roots and stems information questions.  The sheet (text questions and lab observations) should be completed for Thursday.

Wednesday - Students set up the procedure to determine the water content of a storage root and a storage stem.  The stems observations were completed.  The homework is to finish the questions on the roots and stems worksheet.  The roots and stems quiz tomorrow will be open sheet so do a complete/accurate job!

Thursday – Students used their completed sheets to answer the roots and stems quiz questions.  Celery and carrot experiments were checked and data was recorded.  Germinating seeds were checked and recorded for day 6.  Pages 137-141 were used to begin compiling information on leaves.   The homework is to complete the leaves questions.

Friday – Data was recorded for the root and stem water content experiment.  Notes on leaf structure, grouping, attachment to stem, and venation were distributed, discussed, and highlighted.  Side 2 should be labeled for Wednesday.  No homework as long as all of the work for the week has been completed!  Check powerschool and be sure you are up to date! No homework on Halloween (Monday).

 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  October 16, 2011

Monday –Papers for our first notebook grade were lined up together and collected.  Students then began gathering information on seed structure, function, and dispersal.  Side 1 should be completed in class.   The homework is to finish side 2 of the seed worksheet.  The seed quiz will be on Thursday.

Tuesday-Seed plants were introduced with a short video as we began our study of Chapter 6.  Bean seeds were dissected, observed, colored, and labeled.  The homework is to finish the labels and uses on the bean dissection diagrams.  The seed quiz will is on Thursday.

Wednesday- The seed worksheet was reviewed and should be used to study for the quiz tomorrow.  It will be fill-ins and phrase answers.  Bean dissection sheets were collected.  Conditions for seed germination were discussed and then if time permitted, partners set up a Petri dish with four seeds (two corn and two bean) that will be observed over the next two weeks.  The homework is to study for the seed quiz.  The 15 questions have been explained and reviewed several times in class!!!.   

Thursday – The seed quiz was completed.   Seeds were prepared for the observation of germination.   The homework is to complete the corn/bean life cycle sheet that was distributed (read and then color diagrams true to life).  The monocot and dicot information (also distributed today) is due on Tuesday. 

Friday – The seed quiz was returned.  Corn/bean life cycle sheets were collected.  Students began working on the roots/stems information sheet.  The observations will begin on Monday.  No homework if all of the work for the week has been completed.  The first term is quickly coming to an end!  Check powerschool and keep up to date!

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  October 9, 2011

Monday –No school.

Tuesday –Study material for the chapter 3 test (Thursday) was lined up and reviewed.  Independent, dependent, and controlled variables were described and discussed.  Valid experimental format was reviewed using a set of sample situations.   A practice test was distributed.  The homework is to complete the practice test.  

Wednesday –The homework was collected.  Valid experimental design was reviewed and the eight parts of a formal lab report were introduced.  The experimental format questions were completed and collected.  We then applied the lab report information in a class exercise using Euglenas.  The discussion and conclusion will the last page of our first notebook. The homework is to study the information from chapter 3 for the test.  It will have the same types of questions as the first test with the addition of protist diagrams to label.

Thursday-The practice test was returned and questions could be asked before taking the test.  Students completed the Chapter 3 test.   Notebooks will be organized tomorrow (Bring in all of your papers to date!) and collected on Monday; the Euglena lab will be the last page.  The homework is to work on the discussion and conclusion for the euglena lab demonstration.

Friday –Test papers were returned and then collected.  Notebook pages were lined up together and will be collected on Monday.  Euglena labs will be added as the last page of the notebook. Students with extra time could work on the Euglena discussion/conclusion, past due work, or begin gathering information on seeds (Chapter 6).  No homework if all of the work for the week has been completed.

 

 

 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  October 2, 2011

Monday – Students finished the diagrams of the prepared slides of the protists we will be viewing live on Wednesday.   The homework is to complete the ciliates questions; side one and the diagram on side 2.  (The Chapter 3 test is next Thursday.)  

Tuesday- The procedures for viewing live organisms were described and we viewed a short “how to” video.  Students will begin their observations and diagrams  tomorrow.  The homework is to complete the zooflagellates/sporozoan side of the question sheet. 

Wednesday – The ciliates sheet was collected.  Students began their observations and diagrams of the live protists.  They will continue the lab tomorrow.  The homework is to read pages 73-79 and complete the distributed question sheet for Friday.

Thursday-The live protists lab was continued and completed by many students.  The homework is to complete the plantlike protists sheet.   

Friday – Completed plantlike protists sheets were collected.  The protists lab was completed and also collected.  Components of a valid experiment were discussed and they applied in a class set of questions.   No homework if all of the work for the week has been completed.  The Chapter 3 test (Protists) is on Thursday. 

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  September 25, 2011

Monday – Students finished any remaining part of their microscope lab and the power outline (Characteristics of Protists).  Sarcodines worksheets were distributed and students with extra time could read pages 63-65.   The homework is to study for the microscope parts, uses. and technique quiz.   

Tuesday- The microscope quiz was completed.  Remaining time was used to work on the sarcodines questions.  The homework is to use pages 63-65 and complete the sarcodines sheet.

Wednesday – The sarcodines sheet was collected and the microscope quiz was returned. The ciliates sheet was distributed and students used pages 66-67 to work on the questions and diagram.  Students had the option (not the assignment) to take a demoslide tube and bring in a pond water sample.   NO HOMEWORK

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  September 18, 2011

Monday – The bacteria key/question sheet was completed and collected.  Symbiosis was discussed and notes for mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism were added to student folders.  The symbiosis quiz will be on Thursday.  Microscope parts and their uses were reviewed.  The homework is to complete the twenty question bacteria worksheet.

Tuesday – Bacteria question sheets were collected. Many classes were shortened due to the DRP test.  Components of a biological diagram were discussed and put to the test on the microscope diagram sheet.  It was explained why the quality of the diagram will be such a large part of the grade on this sheet…basically because we did all of the data components together and students need to work on accurate diagrams that reflect accurate observations.  The homework is to complete the microscope diagram.    

Wednesday –The microscope diagrams were collected.  The microscope lab was introduced and students began observing their “unknown world”. The homework is to study the symbiosis notes (mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism) for the quiz).  Students will have to define the terms and recognize examples given as specific types of symbiosis. 

Thursday – The symbiosis quiz was completed, and the lab was continued.  If more time is needed to finish, students can use part of tomorrow’s class and then a flex pass is available.  The homework is to read section 3-1 of the text.

Friday –The symbiosis quiz was returned.  Power outlining was described and then applied to section 3-1 (Characteristics of Protists) of the text.  Students worked on the microscope lab and/or the power outline.  Both should be completed at the end of class.   No additional homework if all of the work and class work for the week has been completed.

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  September 11, 2011

Monday – Classification Today sheets were returned and added to student folders.  Students saw their classification quiz grade.  The completed seed classification lab was collected after discussing the last question as a class.  We then became familiar with a taxonomic key used to identify living things by working with one that names several pine trees.  In doing so, the concepts of observing characteristics, organism identification, classification, binomial nomenclature, and key mechanics are utilized.  The kingdoms sheet was distributed.  The homework is to highlight important terms and answer 1-12 on side 2 of the kingdoms sheet.  The classification test on Chapter 1 (fill-ins, multiple choice, and true/false) will be on Thursday 9/15.

Tuesday – Kingdom questions were collected.  The taxonomic key was completed and collected.    Chapter 2 was introduced with the video The Unknown World and corresponding questions.  It will be completed tomorrow.  The homework is to begin studying for the Chapter 1 test.  

Wednesday- Any past work was returned.  Information to be reviewed for the Chapter 1 test was lined up in student folders.  Those sheets as well as text pages 11-31 should be reviewed.  The Unknown World was continued. When completed it will be added to student folders.  The homework is to study for the classification test on Chapter 1 (fill-ins, multiple choice and true/false).  

Thursday- Students took the Chapter 1 test. The homework is to begin reading Chapter 2 and answer any 10 of the 20 questions on the sheet that was distributed. 

Friday- The Chapter 1 test was returned and then collected.  Students began working on the bacteria key and question sheet that was distributed.  It will be continued on Monday in class.  Students should check powerschool often!  Any score of 0% needs to be completed!!!  Any score below 70% should be rewritten or retaken for a better grade! Once a student has two missing assignments, they must see me for a working lunch.The homework due Tuesday is to finish reading Chapter 2 and complete the 20 question sheet.  No homework if all the work for the week has been completed.    

 

Daily Assignments for the Week of:  September 4, 2011

Monday – Labor Day: No School.

Tuesday-Students completed a seventh grade science pre-test.  The results will not be any part of their term grade.  It will be given again in June to assess academic growth.  With any remaining time, students worked on the eight terms from Chapter 1 and/or the reading comprehension packets.  The homework is to complete the definitions of the eight terms.

Wednesday- The eight classification terms were reviewed and put in science folders to be used to study for first quiz (Friday (9/9/11).  Copies of the information were distributed to assure that the study information would be accurate.  The quiz will be a fill in the blank format.  Students watched a short video on the classification system.  Classification Today sheets were distributed and started in class.  The homework is to finish the Classification Today sheet.  

Thursday -Classification Today sheets were collected. Students were reminded of the classification quiz tomorrow.  The seed classification lab was introduced today and the seed inventory was taken.  The remainder of the lab will be completed in class tomorrow after the quiz.  The homework is to study the terms for the classification quiz.  It will have 20 questions and be a fill in the blank format.      

Friday – Some classes were shortened due to the town meeting.  Classification Today sheets were returned and added to student folders.  Students took the classification quiz.  The seed classification lab was also completed.  Students with extra time read the kingdoms sheet that was distributed, highlighted important terms, and answered 1-12 on side 2. The seed lab can be turned in on Monday without any loss of creditNo homework.
