Happenings
Fall
We have had a WONDERFUL
beginning to our school year.
We enjoyed meeting everyone at our
NaubucSchool Open House!
Language Arts
The children have been working on letter formation; capitalization; spacing; and punctuation. They have been working with descriptive stories in their writing journals. We have been emphasizing writing in complete sentences. They have also been working on expanding their ideas by adding details.
The children have been actively engaged in reading. They have been self-selecting literature for quiet reading and are working well in their guided reading groups.
Math
The children have begun working in our Everyday Math program. They have been involved in a variety of activities and games using abstract reasoning skills. We have been working on the concepts of numeral formation; counting; money; temperature; one more, one less; and tally marks. We will be working on telling time; exploring lengths; addition and subtraction; and even and odd. The children will be introduced to the use of math boxes; frames and arrows and the calculator.
*** Please remember to SAVE the FAMILY LETTERS being sent home for each Unit in your

EVERYDAY MATH
FOLDERS!***
Science and Social Studies
Ourselves is the first integrated unit we work on. The children are enjoying sharing their ME BOXES with each other. We further explore the neighborhood by taking a walking excursion to the FIRE STATION. The children will learn about Our Five Senses and complete related activities. We will also be studying about Native Americans.
Our year long study of Holidays
will include:
*Labor Day
*Rosh Hashanah
*Yom Kippur
*Columbus Day
*Halloween
*Veteran’s Day
*Election Day
*Thanksgiving
Field Trips:
10/3 & 10/5:4H Farm
TBAFire Station
11/15&11/16:Stanley Whitman House
Homework:
It is VERY important that the children either read or be read to EACH night for at least 15 minutes. In addition Math homework will be
sent home as needed.
Many thanks to ALL of you who come
into our classrooms to volunteer.
We are so grateful for your help!!!
Reminder: The children go out for recess twice daily (weather permitting). Please have your child bring a jacket every day. Also, so they can play safely, they need to wear appropriate shoes for the playscape – no sandals or higher-heeled shoes please. Sneakers or rubber soled shoes work best.
Thanks!
