Summer School Syllabus and Course Requirements

Summer 2008

Grade 9

Welcome to Summer School!

I know you would all rather be someplace else, but here we are. Think of this as a fantastic opportunity to put yourself in a place to start sophomore year in good shape.  If you work hard everyday, you will successfully complete the requirements of this course.

Attendance:  You need to come to class if you plan to get credit.  Summer school rules are very strict and anymore than two absences will result in loss of credit for the course.  There are NO exceptions to this rule!  While we will both be sad that you are unable to receive credit for your hard work, no amount of wishing, crying, or begging will undo it.

Tardiness:  Three tardies equal one absence.  You can be tardy up to twice each day: once for arriving late and once for returning late from our break.  I am very efficient at closing the door promptly to begin class.  Be sure you are in the room and at your desk before the door is closed.  A good policy is EARLY=ON TIME while ON TIME=LATE.

Preparedness:  You need to bring a notebook, folder, and a pen or pencil to class everyday.  You will receive class participation points each day for coming prepared.

Snacks and Drinks:  Simple really….NO! You may bring water, but there is no eating or drinking during class.  Be sure you come to class having eaten a meal that will allow you to remain alert and focused throughout class.  In the event that you arrive with refreshments, other than water, you will be asked to discard them.

Late Work:  My policy on late work during our very short four weeks of summer school is simple.  Late work is not accepted.  It is not fair to those who complete their work in a timely manner, and it only gives people the false impression that they can wait to the last minute in life and still be successful.
