WELCOME, STUDENTS! You'll find important information here about my American History, American Government and Hispanic Studies classes: assignments, materials we're using in class or for homework (like documents and maps), and more. I will check this webpage often for your emails, so you too should do the same!

TODAY IS FRIDAY, MAY 30. Below are course assignments due during this week. REMEMBER that  all weekly assignments must be turned in by next Monday in order to receive partial credit!

HISPANIC STUDIES. Due 5/29(Thurs): Use 1)the handout outline of 19th century developments AND 2)the last two homework assignments (see below) to 3)explain three wartime events of the Spanish-American War and 4)why Latin American leaders had both +/- reactions to the outcome of this war.

Due 5/21(Wed): Read The Monroe Doctrine and 1) summarize its ideas and 2)write and explain four main points it makes

Due 5/20(Tues): Read pp521-525 and answer these questions: 1)Explain the two consistent themes in U.S. policy toward Latin America over the past 200 years.  Why would these themes cause problems with Latin American nations? 2)What were the economic benefits to the U.S. from trade with Latin America?  Why was the U.S. so eager to accept rule by dictators in these nations? 3)While offering little if any military assistance to the Spanish American rebels, the U.S. saw their independence as a huge advantage.  Why? 4)Summarize the Monroe Doctrine and explain why the U.S. was unable to enforce it for much of the 19th century.5)How did American desires for territorial expansion affect Mexico? 6)How did the U.S. work to control construction of a canal in Central America during the mid-19th century?

AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. Due 5/29(Thurs): Complete your review outline and prepare for tomorrow's test on the U.S. Constitution. Submit the outline for a quiz grade.

U.S. HISTORY. Due 6/2(Mon): Read pp618-623, then complete handout 20-2.

Due 5/29(Thurs): Read pp 612-617, then write THREE two-part IDs (cost-plus contracts, War Production Board, and Selective Service and Training Act), and answer Q#5&6 (p617).

Due 5/26(Mon): Turn in your completed section of chapter 19 review outline; for your section, find FOUR pieces of evidence to explain and prove your assigned part of the chapter them.
