6th grade assignment-Writing enrichment
  Homework below*****************
Due Wednesday, Nov. 4th

Students handed in a rough draft last Wednesday on an accomplishment they are particularly proud of.  I  had shown them a video( on YouTube) of two ballet dancers, both with physical disabilities, who performed such a miraculous dance even under such dire odds.  This was a writing prompt to begin their thinking as to their own accomplishments.

They needed to include some transitional words or phrases to increase the fluidity of their paragraphs and essay. They also needed to eliminate any overly simplistic vocabulary and aim for a bit more sophistication in their writing.Strong topic sentences and paragraph development are essential.

I will be handing the first draft of these essays back this Wednesday, the 28th.  We will have a lesson on additional writing techniques which they will have in their notes and then incorporate into their next drafts. Today we discussed writing more complex and compound sentences instead of just writing simple sentences.  I introduced writing clauses to expand on their sentences.  We will work on this further next week. The next draft will be due on Wednesday, Nov. 4th.

Thank you very much,
Susan Kilman
