June Notes #2
Wow! I can't believe that we are coming to the end of first grade. We have been having so much fun that the year has just flown by. We have some exciting events coming up.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who came to field day. We had lots of fun! It was also nice to have a picnic lunch outside.
On Monday, June 9th at 9:30 we will be building our boats for the Boat Regatta. If you could come and help us, we would love to have you. Please send in recyclables such as milk cartons, plastic toy containers, and any other materials that you think would make a great boat.
On Thursday, June 12th we will go outside and see how our boats stand up to choppy water, how much weight it could hold, how fast it can go and most of all....can it float? We will be outside at 9:50. Ships Ahoy!
We will be having our culminating activity on the last day of school on June 20th. Students will share their favorite poems and reader's theaters. You will also get to look at your child's work that we have been collecting for the year. Then we will have a pizza and popsicle lunch. The event will start at 10:30. I hope that you can all make it.
WEATHER UPDATE:It is getting HOT outside which means it is very warm in our room. Please send your child in with a short sleeve shirt with a sweater or sweatshirt. It is usually cool in the morning and sweltering in the afternoon. Also for safety reasons please make sure students do not come to school in flip flops. It is hard to run around with them at recess and it also is dangerous during fire drills. Also if your child has snow gear in the classroom I will be sending it home this week. It had better not snow anymore! :)
Thanks for your help.
This is the last week for Bookbag signature sheet. We will be collecting all books, including library books. There will continue to be a nightly math homework until June 18th.
Here are a few tips to remember:
***Students will need a healthy snack daily. It should be something that could be eaten with their fingers. Students will not be allowed to have pudding or cups of fruit because they usually make a mess, a sticky mess.
***Please look at your child's folder nightly. It will have important notices for you to see. When we start math homework at the end of September, that will be located there too.
*** If your child will be buying lunch, please place the money in a clear baggie labeled with their name. We will be placing it in a basket and then they will bring it to the cafeteria at lunchtime.
**** We go out to recess everyday. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing to run around outside in. Sneakers usually work best.**** Thanks.
**** Our room is VERY hot. Please send your child in with layers. If they are wearing a sweater, please have a tshirt underneath so that they can take it off if they are uncomfortable. Thanks for your help.
