I hope all of you had a pleasant summer break. It seems that by the time we started having summer weather, summer vacation was almost over!
Language Arts
We will be using a program that is used in the fifth grade called Reader's Workshop. It involves thinking about what we are reading and sharing these thoughts with each other. Students might tell each other what they wonder about, or what they are thinking about.
Math
We will start the year reviewing addition and subtraction strategies. We will also be reviewing math concepts mastered in third grade.
Reminder
We will be beginning the multiplication times tables. In third grade, they learned the 0x,1x,2x,5x and 10x tables. Students must master all the times tables this year to be successful.
Repetition, memorization, and practice will help your child learn their facts at home.
Science/Social Studies
.
In science, we will be working on a unit on Rocks and Minerals. This is a unit that fourth graders really enjoy.
In social studies, we will study the state of Connecticut this year. We will begin with a review of maps and globes.
Writing
Students will be starting the year with narrative writing. We will go over the writing diamond they learned at Center School. Each piece of writing should have an interesting beginning, a strong middle, and a good closing at the end.
Special Notes!
We have a new student joining our class. Her name is Olivia Pierce. Welcome, Olivia!
