Welcome to Computer Education at HMS!

Computer Education Overview

Our students are growing up in a world that is "technological".  They are comfortable with technology and readily use video games, computers, MP3 players, PDA's and other electronic devices.  The goal of Computer Education is to teach the students to use technology WELL.  The students learn to read and write at home before coming to school; Language Arts classes teach them how to apply those skills well.  In a similar fashion, Computer Education develps the students' skills in utilizing computers and related technologies to accomplish tasks and solve problems.  They learn how to use technology to the benefit of all of their content areas.  Students develop positive attitudes and approaches toward technology use that support critical thinking and lifelong learning.

Quarter 3 Computer Classes
Grades 6, 7 and 8

Students just starting Computer Class in third quarter are fortunate to be able to do all of their work using the newest version of the MS Office programs.  The 2007 version has a new and friendly user interface that students have readily been able to manage.  Instead of talking about the "toolbar" at the top of the screen, we're using Microsoft's new terminology and find ourselves talking about the "ribbon".  Students started the quarter using the new version of PowerPoint to demonstrate their ability to manage the different features of the program.  Grades 6 and 7 will learn more about action buttons and hyperlinking later in the quarter.  Presentations made in PowerPoint do not always have to be arranged in a "linear sequence".
