If you'd like to come in and assist, duplicate materials &/or other classroom chores, please contact MR. O. the day before. THANKS!
FLASHCARDS!
Go to the top of this web page and click on "Flashcards". I have posted the 6 and 7 timestable cards for you to use to practice.
Parents, I suggest you buy or make some flashcards and have your child study every night till they develop automaticity.
TIMESTABLE FACTS TESTS
Each day, students will be tested in ONE set of multiplication facts starting with the 2 timestables and working up to the 9 timestables. They will be assigned to study the night before in preparation for the timed test the next day. Students should focus on "automaticity" or knowing the multiplication facts automatically without thinking about them or counting on fingers.

ORAL READING AT HOME
It would be helpful for students to practice their oral reading at home. Students should read out-loud to a parent for 5 - 10 minutes nightly. They should focus on: pausing for a comma, stopping at a period or other end mark, and reading with expression when a sentence ends with a question mark or exclamation point. Students need to practice reading orally in "thought patterns" to to develop better fluency which should help better comprehension.
SUBJECTS AT A GLANCE
SPELLING
This week our focus is on Unit 32 "Final Schwa & /l/ sound" (le/el/al endings). A "pretest" will be given on Monday. The "final test" will be given on Friday. Students are expected to study their words every night for homework. Please keep the pretest list at home. Also, the words may be found written in their homework booklet.
MATH
Today we completed a division worksheet.
READING
Today we previewed vocabulary, read/discussed and responded in our reading journals to chapter 7 in The Book of Three and Shiloh.
WRITING/LA
Students continue to write a first draft Dr. Seuss style story. Learners are also working on writing 3 "personality" poems and a "Diamonte" poem. Today we extended our discussion on "direct quotes". We focused on quotations, end marks, and comma.(punctuating a direct quote)
SOCIAL STUDIES
Today we continued working on a "project" developing an imaginary "state" based on the social studies concepts we've been learning about. (economy, climate, gepography, government, etc.
SCIENCE
In science we finished the unit on "The Ocean".
CURSIVE
We are continuing to review & practice cursive. Our focus is on correct form, spacing, size and connections of cursive letters.
Based on each child's formation of letters, students will be assigned individualized (additional) practice in specific letters.
THE ESSENTIAL 55
In "Morning Meeting" we will learn about The Essential 55. Fifty-five "essential" rules or expectations for students. Hopefully students will imprint these traits and demonstrate them in their daily lives.
MATH FACTS "SKIP COUNTING" (x FACTS)
A great way to learn multiplication facts and develop "automaticity" is to learn the "products" (answers) in sequence & be able to recite the answers in sequence quickly & automatically. This is called "skip counting". For example, sequence count by 6's: 6,12,18,24,30,36,42,48,54,60.
ONLINE SITES FOR KIDS
Many of the online sites are math related, some are homework help sites, while others are just fun educational games/activities sites. I have now entered 20 online sites that you & your child might find interesting, fun, and useful. They will enable your child to create puzzles, math worksheets, browse library books, etc. Enjoy!
HOMEWORK
Students always need to focus on the quality of their homework. Focus on neatness, using an eraser, always using pencil NOT pen. Parents, please check homework for neatness, correctness of answers, and following directions. Thanks!
MATH HOMEWORK CORRECTIONS
If your child needs to make corrections on his/her math homework paper, please indicate this with a note on the paper. Thanks
