In Math, our recent topics have been decimals, elapsed time, division (including averaging, rates and ratio) and probability. We have been learning to use the traditional division algorithm to replace the stacking method we have used since the fall. This will eventually make division more efficient and easier for us.
We have been reading and writing lots of poetry in the last few weeks. Performing a favorite poem has been an enjoyable activity. This involves practicing and using excellent expression, as well as (sometimes) props and costumes!
In Social Studies, we have been learning about the Spanish and French explorers who claimed land in North America in the 1500s. Next we will study the growth of the English colonies and colonial life. By mid-May we will begin to study the American Revolution.
