2010/2011 CES Monthly Assembly Schedule:

September 30
October 28
December 16
January 20
March 31**(changed from original date)
April 14
June 9

All monthly assemblies will be on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. in the CES cafeteria/gymnasium.

Our monthly assemblies "showcase" the talents of CES students by allowing them to perform on stage for the school population.

Assemblies also focus on positive character traits such as respect, compassion, and responsibility.

Each assembly is hosted by a group of third or fourth graders.

Children should contact Mrs. May or Ms. Opperman to set up an "audition" if they are interested in being in an assembly.

Third Grade Chorus meets on Thursday from 1:00-1:30 p.m.

Fourth Grade Chorus meets on Wednesday from 1:00-1:30 p.m.

The CES Third Grade Chorus and Fourth Grade Chorus (75 students) presented a Spring Concert on May 12.  It was part of our annual Celebration of the Arts.

Fourth graders have been playing recorders in music class since November. We are using a new recorder method this year called "Recorder Karate".  Different colored "belts" are given when certain playing skills are achieved.  So far, many of the students have earned their white, yellow, orange, green, and purple belts!  One of the students has earned all 9 belts!  Congratulations, Audrey!

4 fourth graders participated in the CT Elementary Honors Choir in April.  150 children (grades 4-8) from around the state sang together for this event as part of the CT Music Educators Association conference.  Nathan, Micah, Sierra, Audrey had a great time making music with the group and the director, Sally Albrecht.

The third grade classes attended a performance of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra on May 4.  On March 3, a violinist with the NHSO visited our school and gave a presentation to our third grade classes.  We thoroughly enjoyed listening to her play her violin and talk about the music that we heard at the concert.
