Seniors students have taken on a project to bring back to original condition a VW Golf. This vehicle is called The Harlequin Golf. It is a special edition that was done by exchanging all the bolt on body panels of 264 + or - vehicles to make them look different. If you want to see what a Harlequin Golf looks like, go to Google and write Harlequin Golf, it will take you to images of it. Take some time to look for this vehicle it rally looks interesting.Any parent that wants to see what we are doing can stop by the shop. We wil be more than happy to show you what your son or daugther is doing.
sophomores that have finished their door project are currently working on a special custom paint job.
Starting on May 8 to May 13 we will be doing NOCTI. Nine other schools will be coming to the new Auto Body facilities here at Kaynor Tech. Each students will have to do the following:
1. Component identification-- Different parts of equipment will be set on a table and students will identify them. They have 15 minutes for this task.
2. Door striker repair-- Students will be able to adjust a door after it is taken out of alignment by the evaluator. They have 30 minutes to do this.
3. Welding-- This involves doing three different types of welds Lap,Butt and Plug weld. This task is to be done in 60 minutes.
4. Sheet metal repair-- Students will be given a new fender with a dent on it, they have to straighten the dent and apply filler sanding it to a smooth finish and get it ready for primer. On this task they get 45 minutes to complited.
5. Refinishing-- students will get a panel (18" by 12") that is already primed. They have to sand it,paint it and clearcoat it. For this task they have 75 minutes.
6. Masking--This operation consist of masking a quarter panel on a vehicle that is going to be painted. This needs to be done in 30 minutes.
7. Vehicle measurement-- This is done by measuring the engine opening on a vehicle and measuring the wheel base of the vehicle. They are allowed 15 minutes to do this. The total time for the test is 4 hours and 30 minutes.
