Language Lab Grade 9

Students in language lab learn and practice skills and strategies that will aid them both, in their academic subjects and theory lessons. Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing strategies will be emphasized and practiced with both fiction and non-fiction works.
Language Lab Grade 10


Students in grade 10 language lab will continue to learn and practice Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing strategies with both fiction and non-fiction works. There is a heavy emphasis on CAPT preparation in Grade 10.

SAT Prep

Students in this grade 11 elective will learn strategies that will help them to score well on the Critical Reading and Writing portion of the SAT.A heavy emphasis will be placed on practice activities and vocabulary development.Students are encouraged to read as much as possible to improve their vocabulary and to provide examples for their essay writing.

9th Grade Plans for May 6 to May 16   

This cycle we will work on both fiction and non-fiction.First, we will read Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" and work on the CAPT quotations essay.Strategies in this unit will include vocab, a story map, and a quote worksheet as well as groupwork and class discussion.Final products will include a vocab quiz and an essay.Then, we will read
a non-fiction article about the Tylenol murders of the early 80's and do a CAPT like reading for info worksheet on it.Next, students will work in groups to read more non-fiction on this topic which they will do group presentations on.Strategies for this unit will include: vocab, reading for info, presentation and notetaking skills.

SAT Prep Plans for May 6 to May 15
This cycle we will continue to work on the writing section of the SAT. Students will write another essay and will work on the Sentence Error and Sentence Improving sections. Students will also be doing their book presentations this cycle.
