Alex Sinclair, Assistant Principal

Welcome. I am Alex Sinclair, assistant principal at Kaynor Technical High School.  I came to the technical high school system from being a teacher in the Waterbury school system.  While within the system, I found that the students who did not have the good fortune to be labeled gifted and/or honors, often had limited options upon their graduation from high school.  I often run into former students who are floundering; caught in limbo between menial jobs and community college. Although often perceived as the ideal for many families, college is not the solution for all students. The mission of the Technical high school system is to provide its students with the skills to enter the work force as skilled laborers, in addition to preparing them for college if they so choose to attend.

At this time Kaynor, is the only public high school in the city of Waterbury that is not on the No Child Left Behind list of failing school. We have a significant number of graduates that are transition to the work force. Of these students, many were able to find employment and actually start working prior to their graduation through our CWE program. (Students leave school during their shop cycle to go to work and actually earn money while earning credit). Others work in their trade areas and send themselves to two and four year institutions, while some students attend college outright.

This site is intended to supply information about some of the initiatives planned by the Kaynor faculty to cultivate a learning environment that is promotes academic growth, work ethic, responsibility and good citizenship. It also serves as a lens to view who I am as one of the instructional leaders charged to safeguard the quality of your child’s scholastic experience at Kaynor.,
