Contemporary Social Issues (12th grade): This Senior Elective Course is designed to challenge students to examine issues confronting them in today's world. Topics include (but are not limited to): government, foreign and domestic policy, economics, social issues that impact young peoples'lives today, and current events that warrant investigation and decision making. Students make extensive use of Internet resources to research the above topics and formulate positions that they may present in a variety of formats (position papers, PowerPoint Presentations, debate, etc. Every effort is made to make topics covered relevant to the everyday life of the students. The goal of this course is to prepare the students to make informed life decisions.  

Modern United States History (11th grade): This Junior History survey course covers the period of the 20th Century to the present. We begin with the end of American isolationism in 1898 with our involvement in the Spanish-American War and cover the major issues of the 1900's with an emphasis on how these events relate to life today.

Hello since last time!

JUNIOR CLASSES:

The Juniors will be in academics for the next nine school days. We will be studying the Vietnam War: from the French colonizing French Indochina to the last Americans leaving Vietnam in 1975. The students will study how America began its involvement in Vietnam after WWII, the escalation of American troops during the Johnson administration, "pacification" and "Vietnamization" of the war, and the attempts to reach a negotiated settlement ending the war. The students will be encourage to compare and contrast Vietnam with the current fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. We will have 3-4 quizzes and one concluding major test.
