4th. Quarter
Academic Enrichment meets every day and will use the novel, The Westing Game, as a tool to teach or reinforce. Class is divided into 20 - minute segments.
1. Students will recognize the impact of figurative language in written expression through classroom interaction and hands-on activities.
2. Students will use graphic organizers to recognize and record character development, cause/effect, conflict and resolution, etc.
3. Students will make reader-text connections to their world using a journal as they respond to events in each of the chapters in the novel.
4. Students will investigate the history of prejudice in the United States using Us and Them.
5. Students will explore environmental issues using non-fiction articles.
6. Students will be introduced to some of the classics through play reading.
7. Students will see the movie, First Knight, covering Medieval Times, and The Westing Game, based on their novel.
Examples of all assignments and graphic organizers are posted in the room at the appropriate time.
Student grade reflects classroom involvement, work completion according to directions, and hands-on activities.
All work is done in class, individually or in a group setting, as is appropriate for the activity.
Needed materials to complete assignments are in the classroom.
Students are expected to work in class in order to achieve success.
