SCIENCE 5th GRADE.
MAY 12 -16.
GREAT JOB LAST WEEK EVERYONE.
CONTINUING WITH ENERGY,
WE WILL START TALKING ABOUT ELECTRICITY.
Start thinking about our good old friends the small electrons.
Those tiny bits of the atom that have a negative charge
and are present anywhere we find matter.
SCIENCE 6th GRADE.
MAY 12 -16
THERE WILL BE A QUIZ EVERY WEEK ON WEDNESDAYS.
IT WILL COVER THE MATERIAL THAT WE SAW DURING THE WEEK.
We will continue talking about waves and other forms of radiant energy.
Waves move away from the source of origin. They have speed, amplitude and frequency.
Waves display diFferent behaviour when they interact with matter.
Waves bounce off.
Waves are absorbed.
Waves pass through.
We will discuss WAVES. Light and sound.
We will observe how light is reflected and talk about some other properties of waves.
Read the textbook. Unit B. Pages 116-129

SCIENCE 7th GRADE.
May 12- May 16.
REGARDING THE TEST ON FRIDAY MAY 9.
ALL THE QUESTIONS CAME DIRECTLY FROM THE TEXTBOOK, AND CAN BE FOUND AT THE END OF EACH LESSON.
SOME OF THE EQUATIONS TO BALANCE ALSO CAME DIRECTLY FROM THE TEXTBOOK.
SOME DID NOT NEED ANY BALANCING.
THE REST HAD BEEN BALANCED DURING CLASS AS EXAMPLES.
THOSE STUDENTS WHO DID NOT HAND IN THE REPORT ON "ELECTROLYSIS" DUE TUESDAY MAY 6th AND DID NOT ASK
FOR AN EXTENSION WILL NOT, N-O-T, RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS PRACTICE, (READ THE HOMEWORK
POLICY).
As indicated in the handout, you had to include a diagram (drawing) and answer a few questions.
In the diagram indicate: Cathode
Anode
Where Hydrogen is being produced
Where Oxygen is being produced.
AS INDICATED IN THE HANDOUTS (EVEN THOSE WHO WERE NOT PRESENT DURING THE LAB RECEIVED A COPY),
ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS HAD TO BE INCLUDED:
1. Is the gas production (as measured by the amount of bubbles) equal on both electrodes?
2. What are the effects of the addition of salt to the water? Using your previous knowledge, explain why or why not the solutes make a difference.
3. What are the effects of the addition of sugar to the water? Using your previous knowledge, explain why or why not the solutes make a difference.
4. Is there any change in the color of the litmus paper strips? If there is a change, what does it mean? What is the reason?
5. Electrolysis is also a REDOX reaction. Where does the oxidation take place and what is being oxidized? Where does the reduction take place and what is being reduced?
SCIENCE 8TH GRADE.May 12th - MAY 16th.
We will start a new Unit. The Nervous system.
Visit:
http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/nsdivide.html
http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/CreateAGraph/default.aspx
to learn and play.
WE WILL FINISH THE NERVOUS SYSTEM WITH THE LESSONS ON
THE EFFECTS OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL.
NEXT, WE WILL SEE STUDY HOW HORMONES CONTROL DIFFERENT
FUNCTIONS OF THE BODY, TO LEARN ABOUT THE MASTER REGULATOR OF THE BODY VISIT:
http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/hypopit/anatomy.html
WE WILL END THE WEEK WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MAMMALIAN EMBRYO.
