How many different ways can you and your child come up with 
to buy corn at the store.  We brainstormed 12 different
ways corn is available at the store.  (Can, frozen, on 
ear...)

What is the process corn goes through before it makes 
it to your home? 

Go over the value of pennies and nickels.

Practice counting pennies and nickels.

How many pennies equals one nickels?

In Jeb the Scarecrow's Pumpkin Patch, how did Jeb
save all of his pumpkins from the crow's party? Do
they have their pumpkins to help retell you the story ?

We are almost to the end of Charlotte's Web!  One more 
chapter to go! Find out what been happening in the 
story.

Do they think Templeton likes Wilbur, because he can 
seem a little mean to Wilbur at times?

What are some of the things Charlotte has written in her web?

What colors do pumpkins change to as they grow? (yellow flower, 
small green pumpkin, orange pumpkin)

Practice times with your child we have been talking about 0'clock.

What was in Todd's Box?  (Pieces of nature...acorns...leaves...)

Who did Todd give the box to?  (His mother)

What did the Grouchy Labybug go around and ask everyone?  (Do you
want to fight?)

What was the Grouchy Ladybug's excuse for not fighting the different
animals? (You're too small)
What types of jobs do people have when they work together? (teacher
and students work together in school...doctors and nurses...)

What types of animals were at Ort farm? (Turkey, pig, piglets, 
sheep, goats, horses, rabbits, chicken, goose...)

How big was the pumpkin in front of Ort Farm?  Could they have 
picked it up?

How much did their pumpkin weigh?

What was the guessing jar? (Jolly Ranchers)

How many Jolly Ranchers were in the jar? (20)

How close was your child in guessing jar?

If your child could be any type of ant what would they 
be? (Bulldog ant, army ant, carpenter ant, leaf cutter 
ant...have them tell you about them)

Using pennies have your child make up a number story 
for you to solve.

We have started talking about temperatures.  Have them 
guess what temperature they think it is.

Friday was the first day of guessing jar!  They all 
loved it!  We even had one person correctly guess the 
amount.  Ask them about it.  (We had peanut M&M.  There
were 15, the 1 is in the tens place and the 5 is in the
ones place)

Ask them about the seasons of an apple tree.  How does the tree change from season to season?  

What is on apple trees in the spring?  (apple blossoms,
flowers)

Ask them about the assembly we had on Thursday.  They watched a puppet show about being nice to others.

Have your child retell you the story Sam and the 
Bag or The Hat using their props.

Read a book together and identify the beginning, 
middle, and end of the story.

What do they know about apples?  What are they hoping 
to learn about apples?  We have just begun the unit. 


Practice skip counting by 2's, 5, and 10's together.


Can they teach you how to play the game "Number Line 
Squeeze"?  

Choose something in the house to count by using tally 
marks. (How many chairs are in the house, pencils in 
the kitchen, bottles of water in the refrigerator...?)

Can they teach you how to add using their "magical" 
touch finger?  (Touch Math-please let me know if you 
need another copy of the numbers for home.)
