Spring and allergy season is right around the corner!! Please remember to report your child's absence from school every morning that they do not attend. The telephone number to report an absence is 465-1834 ext. 499. When your child returns from an absence, a parent or physician's note should be sent with them.
IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
Every child born on or after January 1, 1997, and entering or attending Grade 6 will be required to receive on doe of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria,acellular pertussis)given no earlier than the 10th birthday. If the child has received a TD booster within in the last 5 years shall be exempt until 5 years have elapsed from the last Td booster.
Every child born on or after January 1, 1997, and entering Grade 6 will be required to have one dose of a meningococcal-containing vaccine.
No medication, prescribed or "over-the-counter" will be given to any student unless a licensed physician or dentist has ordered it. These guidelines will be followed:
1. Written orders are to be provided to the school from the private physician/dentist.
2. The parent/guardian should provide a written request for administration of the prescribed medication at school and the time the last dose was given at home.
3. A responsible person should bring the medication to school in the original container. The pharmacy or the physician should appropriately label the container.
4. The school will provide a secure locked space for the safe storage of the medicine.
5. The records are required to be maintained by the school nurse.
Just a note to let parents know that the bicycle helmet law in the State of New Jersey has changed. All children under the age of 17 will be required to wear a helmet effective March 1, 2006.

10 TIPS FOR CYBER BULLYING FOR TEENS
1. Don’t give out your personal information online, whether in instant message profiles, chat rooms, blogs, or web sites.
2. Don’t tell anyone your email or instant messaging passwords, even your friends.
3. If someone sends a mean or threatening message, do not respond. Save it and show it to a trusted adult, and keep telling until they take action.
4. Don’t open or read messages from cyber bullies.
5. Tell your school if it is school related.
6. Don’t erase the messages. They may be needed to take action.
7. Protect yourself. Never agree to meet with the person or with anyone you meet online.
8. If bullied through chat or instant message the “bully” can be blocked.
9. If you are threatened with harm, inform the local police.
10. Don’t be a cyber bully, because you just may find yourself on the other end of the cyber bullying down the road.
DENTAL CLINIC
A dental clinic is open for children of low income families or on Medicaid. This clinic is located at 410 N. Rt. 9, CMCH, NJ at the Cape Community Health Center. The phone number is 465-0258. The Wildwood Clinic is now closed. No records were forwarded from the Wildwood clinic; therefore, all prior patients will have to re-register.
SPORT PHYSICALS
The New Jersey Administrative Code (6A: 16-2.2) recommends that student medical examinations be conducted at the student's primary care physician and a full report be sent to the school. All sport physicals need to be recorded on the forms provided by the school district. Once a student has provided the school with a copy of his/her physical, that physical will remain in effect for 365 days. Health History Questionnaire forms are required to be completed by parent every 60 days. If a student does not have health insurance or is having difficulty obtaining a physical appointment from their doctor's office, please contact the nurse's office at 465-1834 ext 406 for assistance.
WORKING PAPERS
Students age 14 and older may obtain working papers in the front office after they have obtained a promise of employment. If your child has had a physical at school, the school nurse will be able to complete medical portion of the working papers. EYE CARE
The Stone Harbor Lions Club is now working in conjunction with The Volunteers in Medicine to provide quality eye care and glasses to families in need. The eye clinic operates the first & fourth Wednesday of each month. Please call 463-2846 to set up an appointment for an eye exam. If glasses are needed, the Stone Harbor Lions Club will work with the VIM to fill the prescription.
VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE
Volunteers in medicine is a clinic designed to provide free health care and related services to the medically uninsured and underinsured living and working in Cape May County. A paid Medical Director and Nurse Practitioner run the clinic. Volunteer physicians and nurses provide the medical service. Community volunteers assist in support services. The clinic serves individuals who cannot afford private health care coverage, nor qualify for existing medical programs such as Medicare or Medicaid. It is located at 423 North Route 9 in CMCH. COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
The new Cape Community Health Center opened February 6, 2006 at 4120 Route 9 North. The center will treat anyone who is 3 months old and above. The center will provide services to those on Medicaid, the underinsured , those who may be limited in coverage, or those who cannot find services elsewhere. The center will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30- a.m. until 12:30 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment, please call 465-0258.
