The following is an overview for the month of May
Literacy:
We are reading The Watson's Go To Birmingham. Students will be journal writing,locating sensory images in text. Vocabulary will be introduced. Students will also make comic strips and share the story's main events from each character's point of view.
Poetry is another unit of study this month. Students will be reading and writing poetry. In addition discussions will take place regarding: free verse, rhyme, Haiku and limericks. Also we will be introduced to Robert Frost.
Math:
In our Math class we are learning how to do check writing. We will be learning about deposits and withdraws. We will actually be writing checks for practice. In addition we will continue to review multiplication,addition and subtraction.
Social Studies:
We are traveling to Egypt with the Mendels.
We will be discussing the Nile River, along with mummification and the pyramids.
Science:
Our Science Fair experiments are in full swing. We make observations daily and record our findings. We are also busy getting our boards ready for the 21st of May.
Also, stop in and see us in room A-5 on May 21st. We will be selling baked goods for The Great American Bake Sale. This will help benefit children that are hungry in our country. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
