The start of the third semester brings many new experiences for the fifth graders. The most exciting for the students is the start of the D.A.R.E. program. This is a drug awareness program sponsered by the Town of Mount Pleasant and implemented by the Mount Pleasant police department. The program begins in March and culminates with a graduation ceremony in May. In science we have begun the study of the human body. We study the respiratory, circulatory, and skeletal systems. Look for "Respo Man" and "Mr. Bones" hanging in our classroom. We are reading the novel The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler about two children who run away to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our next novel will be Number the Stars about children living through World War II in Denmark. Math is all about fractions and decimals.
Upcoming events :
*Easter relay races sponsored by Student Council on April 18th
* Stations of the Cross on April 19th - the fifth and sixth grade will perform this solemn reenactment
* D.A.R.E begins in March
