SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year.

Classroom procedures:  Students must be in uniform, clean shaven, and prepared for class with proper notebooks, pens/pencils and calculators.  Texts and workbooks are required every day in the business classes.  Each failure to do homework will result in one point subtracted from the quarter grade.
Tests are always announced well in advance.  If a student is absent the day before they will be required to take the test as scheduled.  If they are absent the day of the test, they must make an appointment to take the test within two days.  Failure to make up a test will result in a grade of zero.

Extra help is available by appointment.  I am usually available during 8th period and after school.

March 13, 2008:
SUPERVISED STUDY began on Feb. 11.  There will be no supervised study on Thursday, March 14. There will be supervised study on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Accounting:     We are now working on the second fiscal period, learning more tasks in accounting.  Students have learned to record transactions into five different journals.  There will be a test on Chapter 11 on Friday, March 15.
Business Law:   We just finished our first mock trial.  The defendant was found not guilty.  student preparation for this trial was unsatisfactory.  In order for a mock trial to work, students must know their testimony and must be prepared for what happens during the trial.  This did not happen during this trial, so I am not certain if we will have another trial.  Those who did prepare were made ineffective because others did not prepare.
Grading for this trial is based on the quality of preparation for the trial, for the actual trial performance, and for a written summary of what they were doing in the trial.  I expect the average of these grades to be rather low.

BUSINESS MATH -   We are now working on savings accounts, loans and installment buying.  Students are learning to calculate interest and acutal balances at maturity of savings accounts and loans.  The cost of loans is also the subject of many of their questions, which is really the point of teaching this.

Keyboarding/Word Processing:  The first six to eight weeks of this semester was spent learning keyboarding.  We begin with the home keys and learn 2-4 keys a day after that.  Grades are based on how well they use the method I teach and on their speed tests. There is no homework in this class.  All work is done in class. Students are now practicing typing by taking speed tests which require that they type actual reports.  We will start working on Microsoft WORD projects after the Easter break.
