Castle Project Update:

You all should be at least half-way finished with your castles by Friday, May 9th.

At this point in the project you must stop and assess what you have accompolished and what you need to finish. Some specific questions you might ask yourself are:
* Am I working on the parts of the castle that are most important? (Details can be placed in last)
* Have I looked at the castle parts list every day, and am I labeling my parts?
* Are we working as a group...am I listening and communicating...and keeping on task?
* Are we sticking to the layout plan, or have we changed it? (That should be your daily starting point)
* Have we thought about a theme? Even if the castle base is underway, or finished, you can still go back and put a theme to your castle.

Castle group projects begin Monday, May 5th.

Monday 5/5 (Assignment 1)--Castle Design:

Design your castle layout on the graph paper provided. You must have included each castle item from the checklist in your layout. Everyone must also create their own design first. On Tuesday, when you meet in your groups, you may either use only one member's layout, or combine them into one.

Your castle designs: Due Tuesday.

Overview of Castle Assignment

CASTLES:
Castles were originally designed for military protection. Their primary purpose was for defense. Along with defense, the castle also served as the center of government, and was the home of either the local lord or king.

TASK:
Students will work in groups of 2 to 4. Each member will first design a castle layout that includes all areas on the checklist. The group will decide to use one member’s design, or combine several designs into one.
Next, you will create your castle using materials you have brought in from home, or from the materials that I have supplied in class.

MATERIALS:
You may choose a themed castle or mix a few ideas together.   Some ideas include:

Recycled (all recycled materials)
Rainbow Colored…Crystal-white/baby blue…(or any color)
Aluminum (Foil, Etc.)
styrofoam
Lego
Candy
Cardboard
Hodgepodge (A mixture of anything and everything)
Sugar Cube
Play dough
Fabric
Sand (best with sand applied to cardboard)
Jewels (using crafts that look like jewels)
Paper…like in a pop-up book)

Materials to save:  egg cartons—shoe boxes—coffee cans—paper towel rolls—ribbons—and more.
