MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS/NOVEMBER 19, 2009

Good Morning Troy High School, today is an "A" day.


Anyone interested in trying out for Varsity Cheerleading please meet in the main gym tonight at 7:30pm.

THS student council food drive – students please bring non-perishable food items to period 2 homeroom.  The winning homeroom will receive a bagel and juice breakfast the day before Thanksgiving.

All Yankee candle orders will be available for pick-up in Room #145 during period 8 starting today thru tomorrow.  All orders must be picked up this week.

Attention Key Club Members:  membership dues must be in by the end of November.  If you have any questions please see Mr Sanzone or Stephen Ziter.

Attention Youth Summit Team – the Troy High Youth Summit Team will be meeting in Bruce Margolis’ office during both A and B lunch on Tuesday, November 24.  Come during your lunch period and bring your ideas, as well as your lunch.

The senior class photo will be taken today at the end of 4th period on the stairs in front of the school.  Please arrive promptly.

Good Morning Troy High School, today is an "A" day.


Attention all Troy High Baseball Players:  There will be a meeting regarding winter work-outs today at 3:30 in the Doyle Middle School Library.

THS student council food drive – students please bring non-perishable food items to period 2 homeroom.  The winning homeroom will receive a bagel and juice breakfast the day before Thanksgiving.

There will be a nutrition meeting tomorrow at 3:20pm in the Doyle Middle School small gym.  Everyone is welcome.

All Yankee candle orders will be available for pick-up in Room #145 during period 8 starting tomorrow thru Friday, November 20.  All orders must be picked up this week.

All German Club members – All sales of Advent Calendars need to be turned in to Mrs Christie in room 356 by Wednesday.  Al money and sales/order lists are due.  Turn everything in to Mrs Christie before the end of 4th period.

Attention Key Club Members:  membership dues must be in by the end of November.  If you have any questions please see Mr Sanzone or Stephen Ziter.

Attention Math Honor Society:  There is a mandatory meeting today after school in room 311 at 3:25pm.  We will hold elections for office.  Please come prepared with your speeches.

Yearbook Staff:  There will be an important meeting immediately after school on Wednesday in the library.  See you there.

Spanish club will have a meeting tomorrow after school in room 202.

A representative from SUNY Cobleskill will be in the Guidance Office today at 11:30.  If you would like to meet with them please see your Guidance Counselor.

There will be a key club meeting today in Mr Sanzone’s room– room #304 at 3:25pm.  All members must attend this meeting with their dues and unicef boxes.

The Challenger staff meeting is today after school in room 264.

Attention Students:  Lifetouch will be here today to take the pictures of students who missed the first picture day.  Only students with appointments will be permitted to have pictures taken today.

THS student council food drive – students please bring non-perishable food items to period 2 homeroom.  The winning homeroom will receive a bagel and juice breakfast the day before Thanksgiving.

A reminder to all sophomores – please submit your H.O.B.Y. application as soon as possible.  See your guidance counselor if you have any questions.

This Saturday night at Shenendehowa, the Troy High Football team will take on Burnt Hills in the Class “A” Super Bowl.  This game features two undefeated teams both ranked in the top -5 in the state.  The winner will advance on to the New York State playoffs next week.  Tickets are $6.00 and the kickoff is 7pm.  Go Troy!!!

Attention math honor society:  there will be a meeting Wednesday, November 4th after school in room 311 at 3:25.  Attendance is mandatory.

There will be a meeting for all students interested in playing lacrosse on Wednesday November 3 at 3:30 in the cafeteria.

There will be a meeting today for all varsity soccer players at 3:30 in the cafeteria.  Players must bring all uniforms and warm up jackets.

Attention—all girls trying out for varsity, jr and modified cheerleading – there will be practice today.  Please meet in the cafeteria at 7:00.  Tryouts will be held tomorrow, November 3 at 7:00.  Please make sure your yellow form is submitted to the nurse or you will not be able to try out.

The boys basketball tryouts are today in the main gym – freshmen basketball players need to be in the gym at 3:30 until 5:00 and sophomores from 5:00 until 6:30 and varsity from 6:30 until 8:00.

The girls varsity soccer team is playing at Shaker today for sectionals and the bus leaves at 12:30.  The girls varsity soccer team need to be dismissed to the girls locker room at 12:15.

The RPI Step Program will once again be holding its tutoring sessions with all those willing participants who were signed up in the past and all those new students who are interested in becoming members of step.  Tutoring sessions will be held every other Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:15 with RPI tutors.  Applications and information sheets may be obtained in the Guidance Office.  Because of the high demand for slots we may only take those who are eligible for this valuable program.  Don’t be late.  Sign up today.  See you this Wednesday October 28 for the kick off!

A congratulations goes out to the JV football team for their exciting win last night over Burnt Hills in the JV section 2 super bowl.  The team came back from a 12-6 half time score to prevail 13-12.  Great job by the entire team and coach Sitterly and coach Hurteau.

Homecoming weekend is October 2nd and 3rd this year.  The Fall Sports Pep Rally will be tomorrow, Friday, October 2nd in the Main Gym…wear purple and gold and show your “flying horses” school spirit. The new queen will be crowned during half-time at the Troy vs Averill Park varsity football game on Saturday.  Your court will be announced at the game. The semi-formal dance is Saturday, October 3rd in the main gym from 7pm – 10pm.  The doors will close at 8pm so plan accordingly.  This is a semi-formal dance.  That means no jeans, no sneakers, no t-shirts no shorts are allowed.  You will not be able to enter the dance if you are wearing any of these items. Tickets are on sale this week in both lunches.  $8 if purchased at school and $10 at the door the night of the dance until 8pm. A one-time entry policy will be strictly enforced.  Any use of alcohol or drugs will result in suspension.  Security will be tight.  Make the right choices.  Parent and spectators are allowed in the upper balcony at 9:15pm to watch the tapping of junior candidates

The girls varsity swim team faced Albany last night and ended in a tie.  Top finishers for Troy were Carly Cahill in the 50 free and 100 breast stroke.  Alexis Jordan in the 100 free.  The 200 Medley Relay team of Carly Cahill, Kaitlin Cahill, Zoe Vadney, and Alexis Jordan.  The girls next meet is next Friday against Schenectady.

Attention Peer Leaders:  The first peer leadership meeting of this school year will be held tonight from 6pm until 8:30pm.  It will be in our new location #room 143.  This meeting is only for students who were involved in Peer Leadership last year.  There will be interest meetings for those who might want to join peer leadership later this month.  Tell Bruce Margolis in Student Assistance if you plan to attend or have any questions.

Congratulations to the boys varsity soccer team with a 5 to 3 win at Schenectady last night.  Contributing to the score were Brandon Wilson with 2 goals, Shafi Kabir, Connor O’Flaherty and Will Valle all with one goal.  Zach Soher also played stellar with a few incredible point blank saves.

The new queen will be crowned during half-time at the Troy vs Averill Park varsity football game on Saturday.  Your court will be announced at the game. The semi-formal dance is Saturday, October 3rd in the main gym from 7pm – 10pm.  The doors will close at 8pm so plan accordingly.  This is a semi-formal dance.  That means no jeans, no sneakers, no t-shirts no shorts are allowed.  You will not be able to enter the dance if you are wearing any of these items. Tickets are on sale this week in both lunches.  $8 if purchased at school and $10 at the door the night of the dance until 8pm. A one-time entry policy will be strictly enforced.  Any use of alcohol or drugs will result in suspension.  Security will be tight.  Make the right choices.  Parent and spectators are allowed in the upper balcony at 9:15pm to watch the tapping of junior candidates. If you are planning to bring an outside guest, you must pick up a permission slip in the main office.  All slips are due back by today. Congratulation to the Troy High School varsity boys soccer team for a well fought battle at LaSalle last night.  The final result was a tie after 2 overtime periods.  Zach Scher had a huge save to preserve the shutout.  The next game is Thursday night at Albany.

For all girls interested in playing softball this year there will be a meeting Tuesday, September 29 at 3:15pm in the Troy High School cafeteria.  Returning players and anyone interested in playing softball are encouraged to attend.

Homecoming weekend is October 2nd and 3rd this year.  The Fall Sports Pep Rally will be Friday, October 2nd in the Main Gym…wear purple and gold and sho your”flying horses” school spirit.

The new queen will be crowned during half-time at the Troy vs Averill Park varsity football game on Saturday.  Your court will be announced at the game.

The semi-formal dance is Saturday, October 3rd in the main gym from 7pm – 10pm.  The doors will close at 8pm so plan accordingly.  This is a semi-formal dance.  That means no jeans, no sneakers, no t-shirts no shorts are allowed.  You will not be able to enter the dance if you are wearing any of these items.

Tickets will go on sale next week in both lunches.  $8 if purchased at school and $10 at the door the night of the dance until 8pm.

A one-time entry policy will be strictly enforced.  Any use of alcohol or drugs will result in suspension.  Security will be tight.  Make the right choices.

Parent and spectators are allowed in the upper balcony at 9:15pm to watch the tapping of junior candidates.

If you are planning to bring an outside guest, you must pick up a permission slip in the main office.  All slips are due back by Wednesday, September 30th.

Good Morning Troy High School.

Today is a "B" day.

The girls varsity swim team defeated Ravena making their record 3 – 1.  Top finishers were 7th grader Zoe Vadney in the 200 free and 100 fly.  Carly Cahill in the 200 1. m. and 100 back, Alexis Jordan in the 50 and 100 free, and 8th grader Kaitlin Cahill in the 500 free and 100 breast stroke.  The girls will face Emma Willard today away.

Janine Alford won her tennis match against Albany High School.  The tennis team will play Amsterdam High School today at Prospect Park.

There will be an organizing meeting of the Key Club on Wednesday, September 30 in Room 304 at 3:30pm.  The officers are requested to see Mr Sanzone sometime before the meeting.

Students for environmental action will be having its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 30 in room 223 during A and B lunches.  See Mr Cassels or Mr Haviland if you have any questions.
