Attention parents: If your child had medication that needed to be given during the school day last year you need to do a couple of things this year to put that back into place.
1. A new doctor's order for this school year to direct me (the school nurse) to administer the medication.
2. A pharmacy labeled container of the medication that can be left in school.
3. An adult must transport medication.
4. Parent permission for the medicine to be given in school.
This includes (but is not limited to) inhalers, epi-pens, benedryl, pain relievers, ADHD medications, cold and cough preparations and antibiotics, and others.
The Child Nutrition Advisory committee has been meeting and we are looking to reinforce healthy eating and making healthy choices with snacks. Please encourage your child to consider a healthy alternative when bringing in a snack to school. Some suggestions are healthy muffins instead of cupcakes, fruits and veggies with dip instead of chips, and granola bars instead of cookies. You may be surprised at how easily your child will take to these nutritious foods!
If you have any questions about either of these topics or for any other questions please feel free to call me at 993-4000, ext. 3522.
