Geography and World Cultures

******************************************************

Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies. Our textbook is World Cultures and Geography by McDougall Littell c.2003.
*******************************************************

We are now entering the home stretch. We will cover as much of Asia as we can before the end of the year.

Assignments

Due Date:

We will be spending the rest of this week completing the map lab for Monsoon Asia. The rest of your assignments will be done in class. You will only have homework to complete work not finished during classtime.

Monday, June 2, we will not have class because of the Presidential Physical Fitness Awards Ceremony.

Tuesday, June 3 - normal class.

Wednesday, June 4 Field Day

Thursday, June 5 - Bishop's holiday

Friday, June 6 - Moving Up Assembly.

*******************************************************

Grading Policy - this year I will use a cumulative grading system. So add up your points and divide by the total points possible to figure out your grade. You will be graded on Tests and Quizzes, Projects, Classwork and Homework. You may maintain a grade sheet in your binder or folder and if your parents agree, you may have access to the electronic gradebook online.

Required class materials:
*Book cover - book sock preferred (they last all year)
*Loose leaf paper - for tests and any assignments turned in to me
*binder with loose leaf paper and pockets for handouts, or notebook for class notes and folder for handouts
*report covers and poster-board as needed for projects
*pens and pencils
*colored pencils or thin markers for maps
*3X5 cards for review questions

Dress Code:

Dress shoes are required and socks should be appropriate for the footwear. The very short socks which go by different names - athletic socks, invisible socks, shoe liners - are not appropriate for dress shoes.

Boys - you should be wearing uniform pants (from the uniform company) the other brands tend to fade and wrinkle.

Girls - check your length, have you outgrown your uniform from last year? The handbook says that the length should be no more than 1 inch above your knee.
