            First Grade Weekly Update
             Week of September 1, 2008

Language Arts: Our story this week is "Sam and the Bag.It is my favorite story in the first reading book. Maybe it is because I like kittens. The pictures are cute, too!

Phonics: We are working on the short a sound that is the cvc pattern. Remember to do the word building cards. The kids can also make new short a words.

Spelling: Our spelling words follow our Phonics pattern this week.

Language: We are going to begin to learn about the parts of a sentence. Capitals at the beginning and periods at the end.

Handwriting: Letters - This week we are working on holding our pencils and paper correctly as well as the basic strokes for handwriting. We may continue with writing numbers,too!

Math: This week we are continuing with chapter 1 Numbers, Number Words and Ordinals.  We are learing to use the number line and about ordinal numbers.

Social Studies: We will start this next week.
    
Religion: chapter 1 We wll learn about creation and the gifts that God has given us.
