Some students with last names at the beginning of the alphabet will be learning LOGO during the first semester while the rest of the students improve their keyboarding skills. Logo is a programming language which encourages your child to learn, explore, and think. Logo involves more than Math and just moving a turtle. Students must think about the process of creating a product. They must analyze a task and plan a set of instructions for it.
If your child is in LOGO, they will need a notebook in which to record their procedures.
If you child is in keyboarding this semester, they will be reviewing all the keys and the proper fingering. They will also be using Type to Learn to develop their speed and accuracy.
Keyboarding students need to be able to type 15 words a minute with less than two mistakes by January . Keyboarding is tested with the keyboard covered with a specially designed tool - SpeedSKIN. If you wish to know where they can be purchased. You may purchase them on line @ www.speedskin.com at a cost of $9.99 each. Be sure to purchase the SpeedSKIN for a PC and not an AppSKIN for a MAC.( Unless you have a MAC at home)
