Dear Families,
It's hard to believe that we have already been back to school for almost 2 weeks. The children are starting to get back into the swing of things, despite this hot weather.
A look at what we are learning:
Religion: We are gifts from God, we are created in God's own image and likeness, the Trinity.
Language Arts: The Consonant, Vowel, Consonant pattern in longer words, short vowel sounds, character traits, beginning, middle, and end of a story, and types of genre.
Math: Review of addition skills.
Science: Trees, leaves, and signs of Autumn.
Social Studies: Family trees.
Some important things to know about our class:
*This year we are beginning a new program called Project Read. It is a phonics-based program that supplements our Language Arts program. You may see your child making some strange hand and finger motions while sounding out words. This is a component of the program of the program. We will talk more about this program at Back to School Night.
*At the beginning of each week, the children will get a new set of Spelling words. They will be tested on these words on Friday of each week. If your child misplaces his/her words, they can always be found at the bottom of my schoolnotes page.
*At the beginning of each week, the children will also get a new set of Vocabulary words. Please review these words with your child on a nightly basic and date and initial the index card that is in their Vocabulary envelope in their Home Folder. The children do not have to know how to spell these words, but they do need to know what they mean. They will be tested on these words on Friday of each week. These vocabulary words can also be found at the bottom of my schoolnotes page.
*Every Friday your child will bring home a Test Folder that contains recent tests. I do not send home tests during the week, they are always sent home in the test folder. Any tests that are taken on Friday probably won't be in the test folder until the following Friday.
*The children will bring their home folders home every day. Please check this folder on a daily basis for important papers. Papers that do not need to returned will be place in the home side of the folder. Papers that need to be returned will be placed in the return side of the folders. Please put any notes that you need to send to me in the home folder, I check these every day.
*If your child is going home a different way than how they normally do, please send in a note letting me know.
*Please label all of your child's items, so that if we find something, we know who to return it to.
*The children have Phys. Ed. class on Mondays. They should wear their Gym uniforms to school on Mondays.
*Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns. You can call me at school (232-3771) and leave a message or you can email me at Mrs.Sullivan@stmmparish.org. I will get back to you as soon as possible. I do check my emails 2-3 times a day, this is usually the fastest way to get hold of me. However, I do realize that not everything can be easily addressed in an email, so feel free to call.
