*******Pre-K, Nutcracker Ballet Field Trip************
November 18th updated:

On December 4th both of our Pre-K classes have been invited to attend the Nutcracker Ballet performed by Pennsylvania Regional Ballet.

*THERE WILL BE NO CLASS IN THE CLASSROOM ON THAT DAY!

*EVERY CHILD MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.

The show starts at noon.  We will meet @ the Scottish Rite Cathedral (2701 N. Third Street, Harrisburg) by 11:30 that day.  The show should last approximately 1 hour.  We will not be watching the entire show.  We will be seeing Act 1 and then some of the other essential parts of the ballet.  This showing is geared, completely toward elementary, school-aged children.  Please sign the field trip sheet at the classroom at your earliest convenience.  The cost is $3/person.  Parents, grandparents, friends and family are all invited.  We just need to know a final count by Tuesday, November 24th.  Please have your money turned in by that day too.

What a great way to ring in the Christmas season!  Hope you'll take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and join us for some Christmas fun!

November 17th - last updated:

There will be a dedication of our STMM Preschool, this Friday, November 20th in the school courtyard (weather permitting.)  The dedication will take place immediately after mass (approximately 9:15am.) The STMMS school board made the decision to dedicate the preschool to our past principal – Mrs. Joyce Haug!  Mrs. Haug was a strong proponent of our preschool since the first day she walked through the doors of STMMS, 10 years ago.  All of our preschool families (both classes) are invited to attend the dedication.  There will be a reception afterward in the school cafeteria.  The morning Pre-K class will continue as normal on that day (regular drop-of/pick-up time as well.)

SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED FROM WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH THROUGH MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH.  School will resume on Tuesday, December 1st.

***************Both Preschool Classes***************

Happy November Preschool Families! I can’t believe that it’s the middle of November already!  We’ve been talking about Thanksgiving and it seems like we just started school!  I hope your children are enjoying Mrs. Moglia and me as much as we are enjoying them!

Hopefully most you are feeling better and are on the mend.  This has been a very busy and confusing time for STMMS and our families.  So many children and families have contracted some virus (s) that has been running rampant through our entire school.  I do have to say that we did have a FEW confirmed cases of H1N1, but most of our students had other viruses.  Most of the students actually tested negative for Swine Flu.  In some cases the doctors arenÂ’t even testing for H1N1 so we’ve just been dealing with what weÂ’ve been given.  Please continue to talk with your children about the importance not picking their noses, washing their hands, and not sharing food/drinks with their friends.  Mrs. Moglia and I are trying to keep up with our preschoolerÂ’s hand washing, but any reminders from you would be greatly appreciated!

*********************PRE-K November*****************

We started off November talking about food and nutrition.  At this age it’s difficult to talk in too much detail about nutrition, but I felt that the children really needed to be reminded about the importance of good nutrition, exercise, vitamins, and minerals.  I was pleasantly surprised at just how much they knew.  We talked about the differences between fruits and veggies.  You should be very proud of your children.  Hopefully with a little guidance from you and from us, they will grow up to be healthy, well-informed adults.

We’ve moved into Thanksgiving lessons.  We talk a little bit every day about Thanksgiving in general and about the 1st Thanksgiving.  WeÂ’ve been learning that there haven’t always been grocery stores and just how difficult it was for the pilgrims and for the Indians to depend on nature alone for food.  We’ve also been talking about the making of their clothes – pilgrims & Indians, and we will continue to learn about pilgrim and Indian homes, pilgrim and Indian childrens’ responsibilities, and the differences between now and then.  They have been amazed so far!  Our goal for this theme is to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday while teaching the children to be thankful for all that they have; not only at Thanksgiving but all throughout the year!

We’ve been working hard on our letters.  Only a handful of children need more work on their pencil grip.  They seem to be catching on quickly and are really enjoying our pre-writing activities.  Mrs. Moglia and I usually try to send home some type of letter reinforcement – book or coloring/practice page.  These do not need to be completed, but as an incentive to the children we told them that if they completed the sheets we would give them a sticker and we would hang them up so everyone could see just how hard our Pre-K children are working.

Next Monday will be our classroom Thanksgiving feast.  Thanks to many of you who have already signed up to bring a goodie or two for our feast/craft.  We will start off our feast an hour before regular class time dismissal.  The children will sing a few Thanksgiving songs and then we will feast!  Parents are all invited to come for our “show” and to share in our classroom Thanksgiving feast!
