Week of August 31- September 4

Monday(8/31):Welcome Back!!!  Today we will have an all school assembly during first period class.  During second period, Mr. Morgan will meet with the seventh grade in the cafeteria.  Students will be taken to the cafeteria by their second period classroom teacher.
During Science class, I will introduce myself and our course.  A parent letter will be sent home that must be returned by Thursday for a homework assignment.  I will pass out books and describe the notebook necessary for class.(I have a sample notebook in my classroom whenever a student needs it!)
Students will also receive the Chapter 1 Vocabulary List.  Page 1 of the list will be due on Wednesday along with having their book covered.

Tuesday(9/1):Today we will discuss any questions about the policies of the class and then get started on Chapter 1.  The first book that we will cover is all about Animals.  We will start with finding out what makes an object living or non-living.  We will also discuss classification of organisms.

Wednesday(9/2)*Foresite testing.(We will run a one-hour delay bell schedule-All class periods will meet.)
*Homework due today:Book Cover and Page 1 on the Chapter 1 Vocabulary List.
Today in class we will have a Discover Activity.  Ten unknown specimens will be placed at stations.  The students will travel to each station and carefully examine the specimen.  Using the key concepts from Tuesday, books, and notebooks, the students will give two reasons to support their choice.  Each student will also write a written response explaining their results.(A conclusion)  *If students do not finish during class time they can complete this assignment for homework.

Thursday(9/3)*Foresite testing.
*Homework due today:Parent Letter returned.  Today, we will discuss our results from Wednesday.  Students will also start working on another activity-The Classification Activity.  This activity directs the students to classify a variety of objects.  This activity should be finished during one class period, however if we need extra time, I will let the activity set-up until Tuesday to finish.

Friday(9/4)-No School today

Week of September 7 - 11

Monday(9/7): No School today!  Labor Day!

Tuesday(9/8): Finish Classification Activity(if we need to!)  Start on Section 1-2 Symmetry.  Introduction, notes, and review sheet.

Wednesday(9/9):
Homework due today:
1. Notebook Check-Each student needs to have a notebook that papers can be attached into-A three ring binder works best!
2. Chapter 1 Vocabulary List-Page 2(Sections 1-3 and 1-4)

During class today, we will have a symmetry activity.
Also, I will review for the Quiz on Thursday(Sections 1-1 and 1-2).

Thursday(9/10):
Section 1-1 and 1-2 QUIZ today!  Students will receive very clear directions on what material that should review for their Quiz.  Please take a look at the notes, chapter summary, and review sheets.

Friday(9/11):
Homework due today:Sponge Drawing-Section 1-3. *Remember to read all directions on the top of the paper!
Students will receive their scores from their Quiz today.

*****I must apologize-I just looked at my schoolnotes to update them and last weeks material is not listed.  I input it last Friday, printed out a copy and thought it was fine but I can see today that there was some type of glitch.  Please just call me in the future if this happens.  I will gladly share the assignments.  I will type them again even though it's a little late.

Week of September 14 - 18

Monday(9/14)Finish the Sponge information.  Start on Cnidarians.  I will have the students mark on their notes the questions the should be prepared for.

Tuesday(9/15)-Section 1-3 Quiz

Wednesday(9/16)-Worm drawings are due for homework today.  We will discuss worms today in class.  Also today, I will tell students what to study for their section 1-4 quiz on Thursday.

Thursday(9/17)Homework due today:Chapter 1 Study Guide.  This is a large assignment so students need to begin early.
We will also have a Section 1-4 Quiz on Worms today.

Friday(9/18)Big day today!-CHAPTER 1 TEST!!!!!!!!  Look at notes, review sheets, section summaries, vocab words, and the study guide.  A bonus opportunity is also available.  5 points will be added to the test score if the student makes up 20 quality questions and answers from Chapter 1.  These questions must be turned in before the test on Friday!  Good Luck!
**I will also be setting up my classes for next week with homework assignments.  Some students have not been competing their homework assignments-this does impact their grade!!

Week of September 21 - 25

Monday(9/21)Introduction to Mollusks!

Tuesday(9/22)Homework due:Chapter 2 Vocabulary List-Page 1

Wednesday(9/23)Homework due today:Mollusk drawings

Thursday(9/24)Today in class-Section 2-1 Quiz. Start on Arthropod Notes.

Friday(9/25)Homework due today:Chapter 2 Vocabulary List-Page 2.  *4th period class will take their Section 2-1 Quiz because of the Assembly yesterday.

Week of September 28 - October 2

Monday(9/28)***Today we will have an early dismissal at 12:30.  This is called an Act 80 Day.  Students are dismissed and teachers will have In-service in the afternoon.
The only class period that will not meet today is 5th period.
During class today, we will review Arthropods completely and also start our discussion on Insects.

Tuesday(9/29): Progress Reports will be passed out today.  They need to be signed and returned by Friday of this week.  Please call or send me a note if you wish to discuss your child's progress and/or behaviors.

Wednesday(9/30): We will finish Insects.  I have a short video that I will show if we have time!  

Thursday(10/1):Homework due: Starfish drawing. Today during class, we will have an Arthropod Quiz.  Please review Section 2-2 and 2-3!!!!!!!

Friday(10/2):Progress Reports are due today!  We will cover section 2-4 in class today and start Echinoderms.

Week of October 5-9

Monday(10/5)Homework due today: Chapter 2 Study Guide.  We will review all Chapter 2 information to prepare for the Chapter 2 Test which is Tuesday!

Tuesday(10/6) Chapter 2 TEST today in class!  The bonus 20 Q's & A's need to be turned in before the test for 5 bonus points.  After the test the students will receive the next Vocabulary list-Vertebrates( Chapters 3 & 4) together.  This list will be due on Thursday.

Wednesday(10/7): Students will begin working on a compare and contrast chart for the seven groups of Chordates that we will be studying!

Thursday(10/8): Homework due today: Chapters 3 & 4 Vocabulary List.

Friday(10/9):*****We are unsure of the weather for our Carnival-it may be postponed until Monday.  If so, we will continue our study of the Vertebrates.  No homework will be due! Red Ribbon Carnival-Students will attend their morning classes and the carnival will be in the afternoon today!

Week of October 12-16

Monday(10/12):We will continue working in class covering the Vertebrates.  We will complete Section 3-1 Guided Reading on Chordates.

Tuesday(10/13):PICTURE DAY today!  Don't forget your $ and your best smile!!! During class today we will have a Vertebrate Workshop.  There will be 5 stations.  the students will complete one activity and move to the next.

Wednesday(10/14): The students will finish the workshop from yesterday and we will continue the Vertebrate information!  We will continue working in class covering the Vertebrates.

Thursday(10/15): Our Red Ribbon Carnival is scheduled for today!

Friday(10/16):Homework due today: Chapter 3 Review Packet.  This packet was passe out last Friday.  All students should have it finished!  This is the only assignment for the week!!!!

Week of October 26-30

Monday(10/26): During class today, we will start and complete an activity on Renewable resources and Integrated Pest Management.  Students can bring in three different insect pests for bonus points this week!

Tuesday(10/27):Start on Frog Dissection Project

Thursday(10/29):Frog Dissection

I will start to grade Notebooks during class today.

Wednesday(11/4):Finish Frog Project!  I will grade Notebooks in class.  Students will switch their Science books and begin a new notebook for the second marking period.

Thursday(11/5): Start on section 1-1 in the new books
Guided Reading and study during class.

Friday(11/6):
Chapter 1 Vocabulary List is due today!
Redi/Pastuer Experiment Activity during class.  This will be graded and turned in.
