I have found some websites that would be useful/helpful for the students. I have put them at the top of my schoolnotes. Enjoy!
TOMORROW is COLOR Dress Down Day. The Student Council has organized this day and each class has chosen a color to wear. The children will wear a WHITE shirt with jeans or gym sweatpants and sneakers to school.
TOMORROW is also Picture Re-take Day. If you are having picture re-takes, please wear you uniform to school for pictures. If you would like, bring a change of clothes for Dress Down Day!
Many thanks to the wonderful donations made to our class library. The children are so excited!
KUDOS to the all the parents who worked so hard to organize the wonderful BOOK FAIR enjoyed by so many of us!
Next week, I will be sending more goodies for you to autograph showcasing the progress your child has made this trimester.

I am sharing a beautiful THANKSGIVING PRAYER with all of you.

and see your care and concern
in our witness.
Let us live true lives of gratitude,
as we pray in thanks to you, our God
who lives forever and ever. AMEN.
May you and your families have a wonderful time during the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for helping me to celebrate my birthday. The children were delightful and are very good at keeping a secret! The brownies were delicious, the good wishes from the children were wonderful and their most generous gift card was most appreciated by me!
The little gifts for the Good Samaritan Purse will be sorted and put into the beautiful gift boxes tomorrow as part of our morning meeting. Many thanks to so many of you for sending in the donations. I am sure the children in other areas around the world will be delighted with their decorated gift box. What a wonderful way to share and reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves.
I have been asked to remind you to have the children fill out their wish list for the Book Fair. Last week, you received a note with a yellow index card for the children to list what it is they would like to be purchased at our Book Fair. BOOK FAIR is this Thursday, Nov. 20th from 6 to 9 PM at Barnes & Noble. It should be a fun evening for all!
I hope you enjoyed reading their Service Journal over the weekend. This is part of our Peace Program this year. Each week, the children will be choosing a new service to do for the week and then respond to how it felt and then proudly bring it home to share with you.
This week, there will be lots of papers for you to sign and return to me in their communication envelope.
Don't forget to order or renew your subscription to the Standard & Times Newspaper.
A good idea for stocking stuffers this year might be pencils, red pens, highlighters.
I will be giving a Social Studies on Friday, November 21st. It will be on chapter 2. I will be making up the test. I feel if the children study from their copybook and their workbook they will be fine.
On Wednesday, November 26th, I will be giving a Math Test on chapter 5 and a Spelling Test on Lesson 7. These grades will be for the next marking period as grades close that day.

Dear Parents,
Thank you to those who were able to attend the Home and School Parent Meeting. Thanks, too, to those who emailed or wrote to me to say they were unable to attend for various reasons. The presentation was well received and information was shared to support parents in their efforts to "listen and speak" with children during difficult times, etc. STAR: Stop, Think, Act and Review is a process that helps children to begin to look at situations and attempt to solve them. Unfortunately, there were no handouts to be shared.
Today, I began the Life Skills Program with the children. They were so excited to work in their new book. The children completed a check list in which they indicated the items they can do and the ones they would like to improve. They were able to share one of each with the class. I loved the fact that some want to improve on how they speak another language, dance, and program a VCR. They are very good at making friends, playing an instrument, smiling to name a few! I discussed the definition of self-esteem and that it means how one feels about themselves. I stressed that self-esteem is important because it can affect how we behave. It affects how hard we try at learning new things, like in school, sports, hobbies, or other activities. The culminating activity was to draw a picture of themselves doing the thing they do well now. They really seem to enjoy this lesson.
I am sure you have heard about the “SAMARITAN PURSE” Project sponsored by the Student Council. We have discussed this project during our morning meeting as each class was asked to fill 10 shoeboxes. The children have already begun to bring in wrapped shoeboxes (5) and small gifts to place inside the decorated box. It was suggested that you purchased these items at the Dollar Store. Some of the suggested ideas were: slinkys, play-doah, hair ties, crayons, markers, pads, coloring books, hard candy (NO CHOCOLATE), socks, toothbrush & paste. You can send in your donations whenever it is good for you and your family as the boxes will be collected on November 19th.
The children’s personal narratives are proudly hung on display outside of our classroom. I have posted pictures on the journal entry created by the children and Sr. Theresa. I have, also, hung up the post cards they created as part of a Religion lesson on the large bulletin board surrounding our Saints Poster inside our room.

Dear Parents,
I did practice worksheets with them yesterday to get them use to the idea of a 28 page theme test. I wanted to teach them how important it is to read the directions for each section. I practiced how to use clues to help you with taking various parts of the theme test.
I, also, gave them vocabulary worksheets so you could see how they check their comprehension of the vocabulary.
I feel the children are ready to take their theme test and they will begin it tomorrow and finish it on Thursday. I feel through those worksheets I was able to review and answer any questions they might have concerning the theme test. They all seemed pretty comfortable and confident.
This morning, I went over how to prepare for their science assessment. I went through their lab learner book and the copybook. I showcased what they could use in each of those books to help them prepare for that next week.
I have been talking/discussing with them some of the ways in which they can study/prepare for a test/assessment. Hopefully, they will be sharing some of these ideas with you.
Tomorrow evening, there will be a guest speaker for a Home and School Parent Meeting on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:15 PM in the Parish Hall. The presentation will be given by Mrs. Linda Kraft. She will speak about Solving Problems and How to be Peacemakers. This talk promises to build up the character of the children while building up God's kingdom each day with one another. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow evening! I WILL NOT BE GIVING ANY HOMEWORK SO THAT YOU CAN ATTEND THE MEETING!
Tomorrow is PIZZA DAY! I made a mistake! Sorry!
Many thanks to those who were able to collect for UNICEF. If you still have your box please send it in with your child. It was optional.
I am so happy to report ALL of the children remembered their sketch books for Mrs. Gallagher. She was thrilled with their sense of responsiblity.
Don't forget to save the date for our BOOK FAIR being held at Barnes & Noble in the Metroplex on Chemical Road. It is slated for Thursday, November 20th from 6 to 9 PM. Hope to see the family at this enjoyable event!
Have a wonderful week!
Peace,
Miss Foley
Dear Parents,
Happy Halloween! I am sure you are enjoying the PHabulous PHillies Parade of Champions!
The third grade are CHAMPIONS for the most box tops brought in for the school. We collected 633 box tops! Keep them coming!
On Wednesday of this week, I did a lesson on "Touching Safety Rules" with the class. After some discussion I had the children create a sequence strip with rules they could use with the words "NO" -- "GO" -- "TELL & SHOW" and we taped it into the back of their Religion CB.
The children need to bring in their sketch books on Tuesday as it is the first Tuesday of the month for Mrs. Gallagher.
Wednesday is hot dog day.
I have begun reviewing their vocabulary words with them. I will send home their vocabulary assessments for you to use to review with your child.
I will be doing the assessment for our first theme on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
On Wednesday, 11/5, there will be a General Home and School Meeting. Our feature speaker will be talking about the program I will be beginning with the children on Friday, 11/7.
Next week, there will be a spelling test on Tuesday(11/11), a math and science assessment on Wednesday (11/12)and a Religion assessment on Thursday (11/13).
SAVE THE DATE: Barnes & Noble Book Fair on
Thursday, November 20th.
Hope you have a "spookacular" evening!

Dear Parents,
YES, you heard correctly from the children. Should our beloved "PHILLIES" win the World Series tonight there will be a PHILLIES DOWN DAY TOMORROW. The children are asked to wear their GYM SWEATPANTS, a shirt with a Phillies logo or player's name IF they have one OR any shirt with red, white and blue along with their sneakers and socks that cover their ankles. NO HATS!
Please mark your calendar for a Home and School Parent Meeting on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:15 PM in the Parish Hall. The presentation will be given by Mrs. Linda Kraft. She will speak about Solving Problems and How to be Peacemakers. This talk promises to build up the character of the children while building up God's kingdom each day with one another. Looking forward to seeing you that evening!
I sent home a vocabulary list for the words we have covered in our theme for the all stories. I have been revewing with them the vocabulary for the 1st four stories. The children should be able to tell you what they mean or give you an example of what the word means. I will be introducing the new vocabulary words on Wednesday. I will send home their vocabulary tests to help you review with them for their theme test next week.
I spent time with each student going over their mistakes on their math test and had them correct them for me. I will send them home in Wednesday's communication envelope as well as 2 spelling tests, a science test and a religion test for you to sign and return them to school.
I will be giving them a post test for the cell 1 in science on the states of matter. I taped into each copybook today notes and their first vocabulary test. The test will be given next week.
Please check and make sure your child has enough sharpened pencils, red pencils/pens and highlighters. I have been lending them out and some have been returned to me and some have not made it back.
Please check to see if you are missing any clothing. I have a nice girl's sweater and a SGS sweatshirt in my room. No one had claimed either one so I told the children if they are not claimed by this Thursday I will be sending them to the Lost and Found.
You should have heard the class sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" this afternoon when the announcement was made about the Phillies Dress Down Day. They sang their hearts out and SO... I hope and pray they will be wearing PHILLIES RED really soon!
GO PHILLIES GO!!!

In light of the season for pumpkins I thought I would share this prayer.
A PUMPKIN PRAYER
Father in heaven, like a farmer,
you have watched me grow
And picked me out from all the rest to house
your light and glow.
Open my mind to think of you.
Open my mouth to sing.
Open my eyes to see your world
and share the joy you bring.
Open my heart to be your home --
a warm and welcome shell.
A place wherein your love and light will dwell.
Let your light shine before others
so that they may see your good works.
Happy Pumpkin Season!
Have a wonderful week!
Peace,
Maria Foley

Dear Parents:
Many thanks to all of you for signing the wonderful papers that I sent home in last week's communication envelope. The class is progressing quite nicely.
We are collecting peanut butter and jelly for the food shelter in Norristown. Please know I am aware that there are some with more than one child in school. If you are sending in your donation with the oldest that is fine with me.
On Wednesday for our FIELD TRIP the children are to wear their WINTER GYM UNIFORM. Please check the handbook what it is -- I have gone over it with the children already. Please be sure their lunch is in a brown bag if possible or a plastic bag with their NAME on it. Please NO GLASS! The chaperones are bringing in blankets and I have a blanket as well for the children to sit on for our picnic lunch. There is a gift shop and I told the children to put the money in an envelope with their name on it. The prices range from 50 cents to $5.00 for an item.
On Wednesday, you will be receiving your child's progress report. I ask that you bring the report with you to our conference.
Next week, we will be having a Spelling test, a Religion test and test on their science vocabulary for investigations 2 and 3 most likely towards the middle and end of the week.
Looking forward to sharing the good news at our Parent Conferences.
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
Tomorrow is PHILLIES Dress Down Day sponsored by Student Council! The students are to wear if they have it-- a shirt with the Phillies logo, or player's name or number or any shirt with red, white and blue. They are to wear their GYM SHORTS OR GYM SWEATPANTS along with their sneakers and socks that cover the ankles. They are asked to bring in a donation that will be given to UNICEF. Any amount will due.
The Flourtown Fire Company will be making a house call to our school tomorrow to share important facts and information and to showcase their fire truck. So, you might want to ask them how was the visit when they come home tomorrow.
In between all of this excitement, the class will be having another math test. I did a practice test with them this morning. I explained the format as it will be different from the first one -- no multiple choice. I will read the directions for each section
and do an example but they will finish the test on their own and at their own pace. I did have them bring home their textbook for them to review p. 39 as we did p. 38 today.
In the communication envelope, there will be some more goodies for you to sign and return to me by Friday so I can put all of their papers into their test folder.
I have started reviewing with them for their Social Studies test and I didn't get as far as I wanted today so I am moving their Social Studies Test to Tuesday, 10/14.
Picture day is Thursday,Oct. 9th. Don't forget to send in the envelope if you are ordering any pictures.
Next week, from Oct 13th to the 15th, the students are asked to donate peanut butter and jelly.
Many thanks to the 7 Moms who volunteered to be chaperones for our Class Trip. Unfortunately, we could only take 3 of you. The lucky students whose parents were picked from my container were: Liam's Mom, Erin's Mom and Celia's Mom and in that order their names were pulled.
Due to the fact, we will be on our class trip for the first pizza day -- Pizza Day for Grades 3 & 4 will be on Thursday, October 16th.
Let us continue to enjoy this beautiful autumn weather!
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
I am unable to answer my emails as we are having technical difficulties. There is a problem with the server -- probably weather related. Therefore, I am unable to answer any of emails. Hoefully, all will be OK tomorrow.
MILK ORDER FORM is on the computer. Go to Sr. Theresa's schoolnotes and down load the form, fill it out, put the form and your check into an envelope with the child/ren's name on it addressed to Mrs. McDonnell. MILK ORDERS will begin on Wednesday, October 8th!
It is hard to believe we have begun a new month.
the students had their seats and jobs changed this morning. We, also, began to learn about our saint for this month -- St. Francis of Assisi. We had our Spotlight on Peace segment highlighting information about him.
Today in your communication envelope, your child brought home quite a few papers for you to see their progress and sign and return to me. Included was all the information regarding our Class Trip slated for Wednesday, October 15th. Parent Chaperones are needed -- please see note on the bottom of the form.
We are making great progress in religion class. They are learning about how they can make a difference and that their choices do have an effect not only on them but those who are around them. We will probably have a test on Chapter 3 on Thursday, 10/9.
In math class, we are into rounding numbers in the ten, hundreds and thousands using our whiteboards. We will be having a test on Wednesday, 10/8.
Today, in science lab they invesitgated density. They had a lot of fun predicting if objects would float or sink. You might want to ask them about oil and the ice cube and what happened. I was very pleased with the science test and I shared them with Sr. Theresa as well. You will get them in next week's communication envelope.
In Social Studies, we are traveling to different countries learning about their communities and cultures. We will be having a social studies test on Friday, 10/10.
In ILA, the children have been writing their personal narratives. Tomorrow, they will edit their stories and write a good copy to use in tech class.
They will be learning about subject and predicates and expanding on those areas. Spelling is moving along nicely. We will have a Spelling test on Tuesday, 10/7. Reading is quite enjoyable and they love to read their library books.
This Tuesday is the first Tuesday of the month and they need to bring in their Sketch Book for Mrs. Gallagher.
Don't forget to send in your pizza and hot dog orders!
As of Monday, October 6th, I am asking the children to stop bringing in their water bottles as I don't think we will be having anymore 90 or above degree weather. Thanks for your assistance!
On Tuesday, October 7th,it is feast of the Holy Rosary and we will be attending the 8 AM Mass together. In honor of October being the month of the HOLY ROSARY, I am asking that each child to bring in a rosary. If you do not have any or can't find them just have your child tell me as I have some extras.
On Wednesday, 10/8 is PHILLIES Dress Down Day. All proceeds will be donated to UNICEF.
On Thursday, 10/9 , we will have Picture Day. Come prepared with your best smile!
May you have a delightful and enjoyable weekend!
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
Many thanks to those of you who were able to bring your child to the 10 AM Liturgy last Sunday. The children were so gracious and wonderful greeters to all who came into Church! I was so proud of them!
Thanks to all who have sent in the pizza orders with your child or with an older sibling. I don't want anyone to miss out on not having to make a lunch!
We have begun reviewing in math class for our test on Thursday. They are so excited with all that they do know. I am going to let them use their play money during the test. Our test is going to be on Thursday, 9/25.
We are almost finished another Religion Chapter. We have been focusing on Jesus and how he taught by his example and how he wants us to treat others. We will have a test next week on Wednesday, 10/1.
We had a wonderful time in lab today using various pieces of equipment. They were making predictions, measuring, pouring, calculating and having fun at the same time. We will conclude our investigation tomorrow afternoon. I have the children studying their vocabluary words from page 1 as I would like to test them on Tuesday, 9/30. It will be a matching test and I will read the test to the children.
In ILA Class:
You may have noticed we have begun another spelling lesson. You might want to ask you child what pattern did they notice. They will have a test on Friday, 9/26.
In reading class, we will begin a new story with a new set of vocabulary words. We have reviewed their new vocabulary words to insure they understand what they mean. I hoping that the children may be able to use a few of these words in their writing piece.
In writing class, we will be writing a personal narrative. They have brainstormed about ideas they could write about and have circled their favorite one. Mrs. Gallagher is having the children draw a picture of themself to go with our story and Mrs. Smith is going to teach them skills in the tech class so we can word process our personal narratives. I have read to the class 3 examples of personal narratives so the children could hear the different way each of the writers wrote their personal narrative.
In grammar class, we have been learning about the 4 different kinds of sentences. I have been teaching them how to edit at the same time so we can integrate this skill with our writing piece.
The information for our field trip will be sent home in next week's communication envelope.
Enjoy this beautiful autumn weather!
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
Thank you all for coming last night. I hope the evening was as enjoyable for you as it was for me.
This afternoon, Mrs. Dougherty, our Parish DRE, came into our class to invite the class to be the Greeters at the 10 AM Mass THIS SUNDAY! I am sorry for the late notice but IF you plan on attending that Mass please have your child see Mrs. Dougherty in the back of Church. The children would greet the people at the doors of the Church and hand to them a slip of paper telling them we celebrating Catechical Sunday and that there will be refreshments and a "Catholic Trivia" game in the Parish Hall afterwards. The children were very excited but I certainly understand if you go to another Mass. I will be attending this Mass as well as a catechist and as an Eucharisitc Minister.
Enjoy the weekend!
Peace,
Miss Foley
September 16, 2009
Dear Parents,
Our Religion Test will be on Thursday, 9/18, on Chapter 1. The puzzle they had for homework last night was a neat way to review. We reviewed in class today and will do so tomorrow as well. I will read the test aloud to the students as they take their test.
The Math Test will not be until the end of next week as I want to make sure they have a good understanding of money.
Pretzels are now 30 cents. They are sold at morning recess.
We finished our good copies about Flat Stanley's Summer Vacation. They pasted their pictures and their writing piece is attached onto paper I had for them. They will be on display outside our room by Thursday evening for all to enjoy.
We had a wonderful time in lab on Monday. The children investigated the 3 states of matter using an ice cube. We will do investigation 2 on Tuesday in the afternoon in the lab.
We have begun Social Studies. We are learning about communities. We have also been reading about world events using the Time for Kids Magazine.
Be sure to check their pictures and writing they did in technology Class. I will have them hung in the back by the clsoet for all to see.
Thanks for all of the pictures of the children. I love them! They will be able to be seen in the front of the room.
Tomorrow, Sister Jane, SSJ, will join our class from 9 until 11 AM. She will be with us each Wednesday morning.
On Wednesdays, after lunch we will make a short visit to the Blessed Sacrament.
Tomorrow, we will have our first "Spotlight on Peace." You might ask your child what the 8th grade shared with us about St. Therese and her gift of faith. We will do this once a month.
Looking forward to Back to School Night.
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
Our stationery order was finally delivered this afternoon. Tomorrow, we will work on getting all of our copybooks in order. I will give out the pencil cases to those who ordered one. The children will receive a primary cursive tablet which they will keep in school.
Our morning meetings have been going well. Today, we had 4 vounteers act out a problem using the STAR Plan. They did a great job! On Fridays, at our morning meetings, we have decided to allow 3 people to share for 1 minute each something special with the class as part of our sharing time. I provided a sign up sheet on a clip board for them to pick and choose the Friday they wish to share something.
In Religion class, we have been learning about the life of Jesus and how we can be his followers. Tomorrow, I will share with them the Sunday readings and try to explain what the message is for all of us. I will also share a little more information about St. Therese. We are also nearing the end of our chaper. I am looking at possibly giving a test on Thursday.
We had a practice spelling test using our whiteboards so I feel we are in good shape.
We have been expanding our world of numbers in using ten thousands and hundred thousands. We have been using the whiteboards to learn how to input and output large numbers. We have been using our play money to learn how to give change. We are being either a customer or a cashier. I would ask if the opportunity arises when you go shopping that you ask your child how much change are we going to get from the cashier. By the end of next week, we should be having our first math test BUT I will keep you posted.
I have been able to conference with all of the children about their story on Flat Stanley and his summer vacation. Hopefully tomorrow, we will begin to write our good copy so we can make our poster with our photos and story. Flat Stanley traveled to many places from Florida, to Maine, to Nantucket, to Malibu to the Jersey shore just name a few.
You might want to ask them about Ruby the Copycat. It was a story we read in our new reader. We had some very grown up vocabulary words with this story. The children seem to enjoy our story and to understand their vocabulary words.(trudged, gushed, coincidence, pleasant, modeled, murmured, loyal, recited, frustrated, and imitated)
Yesterday, we went to the science lab. We had a scavenger hunt and did the first page in our lab learner book. We will be going on Monday to do our first investigation. I am sure you realize we are investigating solids, liquids and gases.
Some of the students still need to bring in their wallet size picture. I would be most appreciative if you could have them in by Monday.
The oldest and only need to return the Student-Parent Handbook Contract Form. It can be downloaded via our webpage.
Tomorrow is GYM day. The children are so excited.
Pretzels will be sold starting on Monday, 9/15.
Thanks for all of your support. I am looking forward to our Back to School Night slated for this Thursday, September 18th.
In honor of 9/11 and the events of that fateful day, I leave you with this prayer entitled "A Patriot's Prayer"
Like all Americans,O Lord, I breathe in
in freedom's air.
The awesome wonder of this gift inspires my
grateful prayer.
I'm thankful for resources you abundantly
provide so dreams can be encouraged and
needs can be supplied.
I'm thankful for the blessing of a peaceful
neighborhood, for leaders, teachers,
workers who promote the common good...
For law and education, and the opportunity
to seek success and happiness from
sea to shining sea...
Give courage and protection,Lord, to those
who help and serve, and grant all
friends of liberty the blessings
they deserve.
AMEN.
Enjoy the weekend!
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
It has been brought to my attention that the set of blocks on the math homework sheet are not properly counted out. Therefore, each large block represents 100 and each strip of blocks represents 10. I apologize for any confusion.
On the spelling sheet, I somehow skipped dust but do not worry about it. The children will have only 19 words to put into ABC order. I will have them fix the paper tomorrow crossing off one of the "shut" and replacing it with dust.
We are doing all of our work in cursive.
On Friday (9/12) of this week, the children will have their first spelling test. I will practice with them using the individual white boards to prepare them for their test in cursive.
Thanks for your patience!
Gratefully,
Miss Foley
September 7, 2008
Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful beginning for Third Grade. The class did a wonderful job with their presentations about Flat Stanley. We have begun to write a paragraph about what Flat Stanley did on his summer vacation. I hope to meet with each child this week to help them edit their writing piece. They will be putting their pictures onto paper I have and attaching the good copy of their story to go with their pictures.
Mrs. Barbara Buonocore, the Reading teacher from the Intermediate Unit, will begin testing the children starting tomorrow and continuing Tuesday and Thursday of this week in the afternoon. She will continue into next week if she needs to do so.
Thanks for getting their books covered. Please be assured I understand if you can't get to all of it. Their copybooks won't be sent home to be covered until sometime next week as they won't be delivered until late this week. We only have a few more workbooks to cover.
The schedule for their specials is:
Monday -- Library* and Technology Class
*If possible they need to bring to their Library Class they worksheet about their summer reading. Please do not panic if you can't find it as I am sure Mrs. Spearing has some copies for the children.
Tuesday -- Art
Spanish will start next week
Wednesday -- Adoration in Church
Thursday -- Music
Friday -- Gym+
+The children should wear their gym uniform.
Please check the handbook for proper dress. White socks should cover the ankle and t-shirts are to be tucked into their gym shorts or pants.
The CARES Program starts tomorrow.
Pretzels will be sold the week of 9/15.
Milk Orders will not start until the Parish Hall/Restaurant renovations are complete. The order form for milk will be found on Sr. Thersa's homepage.
Thanks for taking the time to sign their homework book. I have taped into the back of each one a Conduct Sheet about their Personal & Social Growth and Effort & Study Skills. I have explained it to the children and will do the same for you at Back to School Night.
September 8th is the birthday of Mary, Our Blessed Mother. On Fridays, we will be talking about Sunday's readings and what they mean to us in our daily lives. During the month of September, we will be focusing on St. Therese, the Little Flower. We have been talking about the her at our morning meetings and pray to her each day. This week at our morning meeting, I will focus with the children to remember that doing little things to make the world a better place is certainly pleasing in God's eyes.
In Religion class, we colored a map about Israel and important towns in Jesus's life. We composed together a paragraph about these towns and wrote it on the back of our map. I told the children we were actually doing 2 subjects at once -- Religion and Social Studies. They are proudly on display outside of our classroom for all to see.
This week, we will begin to have written homework -- most likely in Spelling and Math and possibly Religion. The children should be reading each night for 15-20 minutes.
Let us hope it gets cooler. I do not mind the children having water bottles when it is hot outside.
Peace,
Miss Foley

Dear Parents,
Our first day in Grade Three went quite well! The students coundn't believe they were now on the second floor.
Many thanks to all who sent in paper towels, tissues and hand sanitizers. If you have already purchased them and are ready to send them into school that is great. BUT, if you haven't purchased them I will put out a request when our supply is running low.
The books I am sending home need to be covered in clear contact paper so that the covers do not get ripped off or torn. I have tried to label most of their books already with their names.
Tonight, I sent home their Religion Textbook and their Math Workbook to be covered. If you are unable to do it this evening I told the students to bring them back to class tomorrow as we will be using these books in class. I asked them to get their homework book signed and I will check it tomorrow. They took home the old readers from last year and they are to keep them for their reading pleasure.
Communication Envelopes were sent home today. The oldest/only have several sheets to be completed and returned by Monday, September 8th.
This Friday, September 5th, we will be attending the 8 AM Mass. After Mass, the Executive Officers and Commissioners for Student Council will be installed.
I can't stress enough that it is important any money come to school in an envelope. Today, I found a check on the floor so I just put it with my Stationery money. Speaking of stationery, our entire school order is on backorder. We will not be receiving the copybooks, etc until the 12th at the earliest. Please be patient with me. I gave to each student, if they needed it, a zip lock baggie to put their pencils, erasers in it for safe keeping.
Today, the students began sharing their beach balls. Hopefully, we will finish the rest of them by Friday. I have asked the students if they could please have their pictures of Flat Stanley for this Friday. I have also asked them to have something to read by Monday for our DEAR time. The paper about what they read over the summer is due on Monday when they go to the Library.
I would like their wallet size photo of self as recorded in homework book by Friday if possible.
Drink Orders will be done on line. Please look to school notes for that information.
Placements are needed for lunch as well as napkins. Today, when I ate lunch with the students I noticed a few of the students were missing both or one or the other. We will be having outdoor recess first and eating lunch second for the month of September. The class seemed to enjoy this change of pace.
If you have any questions, please email me at mfoley@stgens.com I may not respond to you immediately but I will do so as soon as possible.
Thanks for entrusting your child with me!
Peace,
Miss Foley
