Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Third Grade! Your child is moving on up to the second floor and with that comes “Flat Stanley.” Your child will have received a bag with Flat Stanley tucked into the it as well as a letter explaining about the beach ball and a copy of the book Flat Stanley His Original Adventure. The Flat Stanley Project is due on Monday, September 14th.
On our website your will find a reading list for grades 1-3. I would ask you to use this list as a guide to help your child choose books to read during the summer. Your child may also read other books of their choice as well. There is a Book Reading Log form you can print off for your child to fill in to keep track of the books he/she will have read during the summer. You will also find a Book Talk Form/ Literature Circle Form on the website. I would like your child to fill this form out using their favorite book they read during the summer. I would ask that you send in the Book Reading Log and Book Talk Form/ Literature Circle paper with your child on the first day of school, which is Wednesday, September 9th.
I am enclosing a packet of papers for your child to work on during the summer months. I ask that this packet be returned Thursday, September 10th of the first week of school. We will check them together in class. THEY ARE NOT BEING GRADED as they are a reinforcement of what they have learned in the second grade.
The Stationery List can be found on School Notes the week of June 22nd. You will need to sign up to receive the School Notes for the Third Grade.
May you and your family have an enjoyable and relaxing summer. Looking forward to working with you and your child in September.
Sincerely,
Maria Foley

Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the Third Grade! I hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable summer. Summer is a time of relaxation and fun activities, as well as a time for making memories. I would like to ask you to use Flat Stanley to help share those memories with the class in September.
In this packet, you have received a beach ball and the Flat Stanley book and figure. Over the summer, please read the book Flat Stanley, use the beach ball for the book report and take pictures with Flat Stanley. Please follow the directions at the bottom of this paper. I wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable summer.
Please make sure Flat Stanley comes to school with his beach ball and pictures with him on Monday, September 14th as we will begin to share our beach balls with the class.

Sincerely,
Miss Foley
