Parent Conferences
Thank you, one and all, for attending
our Parent/Teacher Conferences. The
children are doing beautifully! I
really appreciate you taking the time
to come to discuss your child’s
progress. When the children see us
working together, it gives them the idea
that we are all “on the same team.”
Thank you, again!
Advent Calendar
On Friday, with your child’s weekly papers, there was an Advent Calendar attached.
The children were introduced to the idea on Friday. Please keep the calendar posted so
your child can track of “things we can do
to prepare for Jesus’ birthday.”
New High-Frequency Words
Just to keep updated …our list is growing:
a-I-like-the-my-go-we-on-to
The Sounds for Gg and Ff
Last week we are also learned the /g/ and /f/ sounds. We will practice listening to the sound at the beginning and at the end of words. Now we can add “g” and “f” to our rhyming families:
gab gap gas gag
fan fat fad
This week we learn a new vowel sound: short /i/. This will issue in more work with rhyming families. Please be sure you begin “building” your rhyming families at home for extra practice.
Santa Shop
Each year we have a Santa Shop for the children to purchase gifts for family and friends. This year the Santa Shop will be on Thursday, December 11. In your Communication Envelope, on Wednesday, you will receive a form for you to complete to help your child shop. You will be asked to give the name, amount to spend, and an idea about the kind of gift to buy for each person on your child’s shopping list. Please send the form and money in an envelope marked with your child’s name and “Santa Shop” written on the envelope. The price for each gift ranges (usually) from $2-$8 or thereabouts.
‘Tis the Season!
Welcome to our Class
We welcome the Cherry family to our school. Hannah Cherry begins SGS on Monday, December 1. Welcome, Hannah!
Lunch Duty
Our Lunch Duty list is about to be posted. We have several days in which we need coverage. If you are available, would you let us know so we can add your name to the list?
Days needing coverage:
Tuesday, December 2,9,16
On the following days, there is one volunteer:
Wednesday, Dec. 3, 17
Thursday, Dec. 4, 18
Friday, Dec. 5, 19
Because of holiday lunch get-togethers, we do not need coverage on December 22 or 23.
We know this is a busy time of year so we do appreciate any time you can give us. We are most grateful.
Just Some Reminders …
The Dress Down Day pass which you received at the Barnes and Noble Book Fair expires on December 12. Any time your child would like to use it, send in the pass and away we go …
If you have not as yet sent in your child’s permission form for our trip to Mt. St. Jos. Academy (Christmas Show practice) please send it in soon. I think we are missing 5. Thank you!
In Preparation ...
On Monday, December 22, the kindergarten will have a Christmas Picnic lunch with their Prayer Partners in the 6th grade classroom. If you are scheduled for lunch duty that day, you have the day off.
Also on that day, the children will exchange a SMALL Christmas gift with their Prayer Partners. We ask that you spend no more than $5.00 on a gift. This way, no one feels slighted or overwhelmed. Thank you!
The Feast of St. Nicholas
On December 6, we celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas.
Since the children will not be in school on that day, we will give the children their "surprise gift" from St. Nick on Friday. It is a custom that if children put a shoe outside their bedroom door on the eve of St. Nick's feast day, the children will get a surprise in their shoe. Get ready, we will tell the children about the custom! Remember, it needs to fit in the shoe!

Mini Courses
During the course of the year in kindergarten, parents, family, friends are invited to come to our classroom to share their time and talent with the children. These mini courses are based on our weekly themes. A mini course is a 20 minute presentation with endless possibilities. Listed below are the themes we will work on this year. If any catches your eye, maybe you could come into class and share with the children. We have had two parents come in so far.
The children enjoyed their visits and, I believe, the parents did too!
