          Second Grade Scoop....

Religion: The children are learning how to say the rosary. They can bring in a rosary from home if they have one. I have some extras if they don't have one. We will be saying a decade of the rosary each day.

Reading: In our anthology we read "Get Up and Go" by Stuart J. Murphy. It's a story about a girl who is getting ready for school.  A timeline is created to show how long it takes her to get ready for school. Each second grader created their own timeline.  The results showed that it takes us anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 minutes to get ready for school!

Math:  In Math we are working on addition facts.  We do the Addition Drill in class each day. It is important that the children memorize the facts! Please practice the Drill with them everynight.

Science: We have been learning about Monarch butterflies. The children saw a short video on the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. They made a mini-book and read it to each other. We also learned about the migration of the Monarch butterflies to Mexico. We are participating in the Journey North Monarch Butterfly Project. We made our butterflies and they will soon be traveling to Mexico!

Social Studies: After learning about the Monarch butterfly migrating to Mexico, we read about a little girl named Noemi who lives in Mexico. We are comparing her life experiences to ours. We will show the similiarities and differences on a Venn Diagram.

These are some of the exciting things going on in 2nd grade. Ask your child about them!
