              Holy Martyrs Music Class News

Dear HMS Grade 7 & 8 Parents,

Here are the roles your children will be playing in our annual Christmas show, as well as a list of costume pieces that we already have.  We wanted to get this information to you before the holiday break so you’d have more time to gather what you’ll need for the night of the show.

GRADE 8
NARRATORS:  Jake and Catharine
MARY:  Kierra
JOSEPH:  Cullen
ELIZABETH:  Jenny
KINGS:  Matt, Tyler, James
DONKEY:  Erich
ANGELS:  Georgina, Brigid, Erica, Kerry

GRADE 7
SHEEP:  Sara, Alyssa, Raeghan, Alicia
COWS:  Tara, Lauren
DUCK:  Ryan
DOVE:  Brett
DONKEY:  Robert
OWL:  John
CAMEL:  Teddy
HORSE:  Patrick
SHEPHERDS?:  Julia, Kaitlyn, & Lydia weren’t interested in being animals, so we’re going to ask them to act as shepherds.

Our narrators need only wear “Sunday best,” so their apparel shouldn’t be a problem.  We have a robe and veil for Mary, a robe for Joseph, one cow costume, and possibly an owl costume.  Unfortunately, we don’t have a robe for Elizabeth.

Probably there are enough pieces to cover all the kings with robes, but we DO NOT have crowns.  The angels should be able to borrow the girls’ graduation robes for the major portion of their costumes, but we only have one set of angel wings to borrow, and no halos.

The shepherds need only have simple, earth-toned robes with rope-like belts.  If they’d like to wear something on their heads, they can use shawls or other scraps of material wrapped with ropes or stretchy material headbands.

Animal costumes should be very simple.  Don’t go crazy!  Our owl and cow costumes were large men’s t-shirts onto which we glued pieces of felt.  We then supplemented them with brimmed caps that were also decorated with felt, but masks could certainly be used instead.  Erich should only need a shirt, because Jake was going to let him borrow a donkey mask.

If you have any questions or you need help brainstorming costume ideas, please don’t hesitate to call or email either of us.  As always, we’d like to thank you for your continued support of our HMS music program.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
