Mrs. Kaiser's Class Notes

Good luck to all eighth graders taking high school entrance tests this fall!  I am happy to write recommendations for students.  If you have not requested  recommendations yet, and will need them, please do so as soon as possible.  The various high schools each have their own specific deadline dates.

8th Grade News:

The students are analyzing graphs and other statistics on the electoral college website and a few news websites to predict which states will cast their electoral votes for McCain or Obama.  The student(s) who accurately predict how each state will vote will receive a homework pass.

On election day the 8th grade held a mock election for 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  Each classroom was also assigned one electoral vote so we could compare the popular vote and the electoral vote at HMS.

In Science the 8th graders have completed their news articles on hurricanes they named after themselves.  The news articles were accompanied by  National Weather Service tracking maps which the students used to plot the courses of their hurricanes.  Next, the students will create weather maps to forecast the weather in three U.S. cities.

Class Trip:

We are in the process of deciding where to go on our 8th grade trip.  A flyer will be sent home describing the three choices:  New York, Washington, D.C., or Baltimore.  Each family will have one vote.  Please send in your vote as soon as possible.  Thank you!  Special thanks to Mrs. Winning, our room mother, for researching the trip information!

The 8th Grade High School Visitation Day will be on 11/20/08.  On this day, the 8th graders will attend an Archdiocesan high school instead of coming to school at HMS. If you haven't done so already, please send back the form indicating which high school your child will attend on that day.  Thank you.
