Dear Parents,

As we near the end of the first trimester, here's a quick update.

Please remember to have your child to review social studies and science notes on a regular basis.  This is especially important of key terms and packets that pertain to the unit being studied. This will help promote good study skills as well as maintaining good grades.  Try to discourage cramming right before a test.  Material is introduced slowly, and if reviews are consistent, they will always be ready when the test is taken.

T.O.P. Dates:    The tree observation project will conclude with the end of the trimester.  We will do the remaining work in class. Thanks for you help with this project.

MATH Update!
We will begin to learn out times tables.  We are using the TIMES TABLES THE FUN WAY method, which is a series of stories shown on a DVD along with worksheets to help the childeren remember the times tables facts.  Frequent quizzes are given to check progress.  A word of warning, students will still need continual reinforcement of the facts on a daily basis at home.  That's where you come in.  It will be essential for you to quiz your child every night on the facts they learn that day as well as the previous facts learned.  I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of your help and support in this math milestone!

Coming up:

Religion:   The Sacraments of Initiation

Science:  We have been studying the water cycle as well as concluding our tree observation project.
The water cycle test will be on Monday, November 30th.

Social Studies: Culture, custom and tradition.  We will also be interviewing the oldest person at our Thanksgiving table.  This will help us to learn about history and compare the life of someone we know with our lives today.
Test on Chapter 2 will be on Tuesday.

Writing:  A friendly letter to a person the student has chosen.

Reading:  Liturature Circles are going well.  Students seem to be enjoying discussing our book, and are learning to work together which is not always an easy task!

As always, thanks for your support and feel free to contact me with any problems that might arise.

Mrs. Feeley
