I think there has been a misunderstanding. The forms sent out last week are not the permission slips and no money is due at this time.
This form was to find out about chaperones and available drivers for the trip.
A seperate permission slip will be sent out and money will be due closer to the time of the trip. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I would never send a form out and expect that amount of money due that quickly. Again Sorry for any misunderstanding.
For those who have sent in money, I will have those checks deposited and will record your child as paid.
Thanks
Terry Angelus

Today we reviewed the effect of weather on pollution.
Students will complete solubility and volatility labs this week.
There will be a quick quiz Tuesday and Wednesday on area and volume both by mathematical formula and water displacement.
September 25, 2007
Today the students continued working on solubility and volatility to recognize the relationship between cost and benefits of caring for our environment both in water and air. 7th graders are beginning the energy by volume and mass lab in the data log. 8th graders are working on the next step by looking at the consideration of dilution as a problem to water polution (solubility) and reducing volatile contaminents in the air for better air quality.
HOMEWORK: 8-2, 8-3 pg 42 of the data log choose two Going Further questions and 2 On a personal NOte questions. Complete solubility questions up to #6 pgs 41 & 42 if not done in class.
No homework fo other classes
September 24, 2007
HI everyone,
Sorry for any confusion on the last notes, 7th graders are just starting the Energy by mass and volume lab this week. We had to do some background labs on mass, volume and density.
8th graders are beginning labs on solubility and volatility. They will use all of the infomration and understadning to prepare and present on fuels and decide which fule they would want to use when they are driving. This information will be coming to them within the next couple of days.
HOMEWORK:None unless they have to finish pg. 30/31 questions 8th grade only at this time
September 20, 2007
Today we started a lab that tests energy of mass vs. energy in volume. We did this by measuring the energy transferred to water from a candle by measuring the change in temperature.
We are considering this because students realized that we are dependent on cars and trucks, some of the mobile sources that contribute to particulate matter and the secondary pollutant ozone, therefore we need to consider the fuel and its efficiency.
HOMEWORK: Quiz on concentration 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 8-1
8-2 should complete questions pg 30 of the Data Log
7-3 should complete ozone lab question except for #10 which will be counted as extra credit. pgs 16 & 17 of the Data Log
Have a good night
September 19, 2007
The last two days we looked at water testing and related it to concentration and how we must consider both air and water when trying to remediate air pollution. In class we looked at our pond and tested for nitrates, phosphates, pH, and turbidity as well as looked at the overall appearence and smell of the water.
In class today we analyzed our test results and communicated them in an analysis report.
HOMEWORK: Students in all B day classes should complete the Ozone lab analysis questions using their case studies.
7-2 cannot completes questions 1,2 &3 in their data logs pgs. 16 & 17 due to the need of class discussion
7-3, 8-1 will need to complete this for Friday after class discussion
QUIZ: There will be a quick quiz on concentration given Thursday and Friday. Students are aware of their day based on class meeting days.
8-2, 8-3, will be on Thursday, All others on Fridat.
Have a nice night
September 13, 2007
Today we worked on serial dilutions and concentration in mostly the 7th grade. They did an outstanding job. We are working towards understanding that it is the concentration of a pollutant not necessarily its presence alone that makes it harmful to humans. We also tested Ozone, don't be alarmed; I allowed students to put it in the direct sun and that gave us more high readings than normally would be expected.
Homework is to make sure that the FEV1, Particulate Matter and You and Collecting Pm labs are ready for grading,(7th) 8th should also have the Concentration lab completed by Monday for grading.
Have a nice night.
September 12, 2007
There is no "official" homework; Students were reminded to look over the first group of labs in their data logs to make sure they are grading ready.
Today classes worked on a serial dilution to help them understand the concept of concentration. We will be completing this and assessing this idea in the next couple of classes. My 8th grade classes started testing the levels of ozone at school today and we used a colorimeter to compare levles to ozone badges. Ask them about it (8-2 and 8-3) other classes will be testing tomorrow.
Have a reat evening; see you at open house this evening from 6:00 to 7:30
September 11, 2007
Hello Everyone
There is no homework this evening unless you need to complete a lab activity at home.
We are currently investigating particulate matter in our air as one of the pollutants that DE is a non-attainment area, tomorrow we will start with ground level ozone and concentration.
Have a good night
September 10th.
Many students did not turn in their paragraph on their science choice question assignmed last Thursday or Friday, depending on the class day they had me. Please check and make sure it is turned in during the next class meeting. They would have received a zero for the homework, but the paper counts as a classwork grade as well.
The assignment had them choosing a question from one that adresses a highway being placed near the school or one that would change the standard for particulate matter in the area. They were to read pages 11-13 in their case study to help tham make the decision and use this in support for their response.
Thanks, have a good evening.

Hi Everyone,
Assignment: Thinking outside the box technology cube
Purpose: This activity was created to have students analyze invention and how it is driven by needs. Those needs may be political, social, environmental, or economic. The invention may also affect one of those areas instead of being driven by those forces. Further the students should identify ways the advancement in technology gives us new information and/ or new needs.
The assignment:
1) Choose an invention - include a picture on your cube
2) Write the need that the invention fulfilled (Why it was invented?)Full sentences
3) Identify how this invention was driven by political, environmental, economic, or social needs or affects (in full senences)
4)Identify new technology or problems that resulted from this invention or would make it better an how or why. (full sentences)
Do not tape or glue in a cube at home it will get smashed
The students should be mostly finished this project some just needed more time. It was mostly an in class project.
Thanks,
May 21, 2007
Hi everyone. The end of the year is fast approaching and we are all feeling the pressure of finishing (and grading) the end of year projects.
7th Grade Science Fair projects are due the end of this week. Most students are coming to me saying they are working on them and finishing putting together their display boards while others are panicking about finding a board. This year we are introducing this project and the students have been fully aware of due dates. WE discuss it every class. Although these are due Friday, we will be adjusting and practicing presentations to put together a full program. It is looking like we will be setting up on Monday the 4th.
Any questions please feel free to contact me.

There is no homework during DSTP testing from science.
7th grae students who are currently working on research papers for their projects have had a month and many have shown them to me. If you choose to work on it, do not stress yourself. I am flexible and this is supposed to be to your benefit. Talk to me if there is a problem finding resources and do not stay up late working on it to get it done. The due date is the 22nd or whenever your class meets nearest after that date, but do not let this interfere with your needs for DSTP, I can adjust if necessary.
Eat a good breakfast, go to bed a little earlier and relax, your brain will work better.
3/5/07
8th Grade - all air pressure lab questions will be checked and graded. This specifically addresses those students that had to take it home.
7th Grade
7-2 draw critters and color in journal if not completed in class
All 7th grade classes
Written report for your science fair topic is due on or as soon after the 22nd of March as you have class
This serves as research for you to have background knowledge of your topics in order to form a hypothesis.
Do not copy, cut and paste- keep a journal and highlight the infomration you may want to use and write it in your own words or give credit to the author.
This report will be included with your project.
3 - 6 pages(more if needed)
typed
double spaced
12 pt font
Times New Roman
This can be broken up and done however the group would like if working in a group for the project.
Some students want to do their own research paper and then just being what they know to do the project, this is fine.
My suggesstion, if students are working in groups, is to discuss the project and break up the research into parts and each do a part.
This should be fun and not stressful, remember this is for your own knowledge, not mine, this way you can create a better project.
Ms. Angelus

ALL 8TH GRADE CLASSES: I was not satisfied with the homework response to the Dynamic Watershed questions assignment.
A large number of students in 8th grade did not turn it in or did not follow directions. This is a necessary assignment.
Students will be allowed to use this weekend to do the assignment for reduced credit instead of a "0".
At this time, if the assignment was not turned in students received a "0" which will be changed when the assignment is turned in Monday morning in my mailbox outside my door.
Directions are as follows:
1)Students wrote 3 questions in their Dynamic Watershed packet.
2) Students are to choose one of their questions and research to find an answer. If the question is not reasonable to answer modify the question or choose a different one.
3) Students are to write a paragraph in their own words answering the question- no cutting and pasting
4) Cite your source from a book, article or internet - not the search engine; example google.com is not acceptable.
