SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community

                                                                                            May 16, 2008

LA - Students have begun researching for our research projects.  I gathered some sources from the library and the internet.  Students are assigned to find more resources and bring them to class by Tuesday 5/20/08.

Students are using index cards to take notes for their research.  They will use the cards to help build an outline that will guide their rough drafts.

Later in the process, students will learn rules about writing a bibiliography.  They will be required to have a bibliography for their papers.

The newsletter is improving!  Student reporters are writing more about what they learned, rather than just listing things that they have done throughout the week.  Students are thinking more about the purpose and value of the activities in which they participate.  This acts to reinforce the learning targets in class.

Math - Our Unit 10 test will be on Thursday, May 22.  Students have received a list of the learning targets for the test.  They are required to have their study guides completed by Monday.

Next, we will study how the coordinate plane is used to read maps.  After that target, we will be studying prime and composite numbers, fatoring, and multiples.  This will prepare the students for the first unit in the 6th grade curriculum.

Multiplication facts - I am working on getting back on track with snappy facts.  It has been hectic this trimester, but I do feel it's important to stay on track towards automaticity.  Please continue practicing with your child at home.
