Math - Onto unit four...Division and data. We will be reviewing traditional long division, as well as exploring some other algorithms that may help with division. We will take another look at mean and median. This time around, we will be discussing how to know when to use median and when to use mean. As we work through this unit, we will continue with our practice of word problems and double digit multiplication.
Language Arts - We have moved onto our second novel. Some students are reading MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN by Jean Craighead George. Others are reading THE DAY OF THE IGUANA by Hank Zipzer. As we read, we are working on summaries, attacking the meanings of unknown words, diving deeper into story elements, and making text to text connections.
We are finishing up persuasive letters during our writing block of language arts. We will be moving into a study of text-based writing next. We will use our Think Trix skills to help us create writing pieces in response to a text. We will use details from the text to support our writing.
Word groups are going well. The students really have the hang of the schedule and it's beginning to flow smoothly. Also, we are all getting the hang of centers and the kids seem to enjoy moving around the room to complete assignments.
