Good Afternoon! Below you will find information on the new project we will begin in 7th grade Social Studies. More information will be posted as students begin the project. This will be a take home project.

Over the past week, students in 7th grade began working on how and why we create bibliographies as the first step towards this project. I have provided them with a step-by-step guide for bibiliographies.

All 7th Graders will be learning to use research about the different countries of Africa to create three items (a research paper, bibliography, and project) that they will use in a presentation to their class mid-May.
1.) Students have been given two choices: Work alone or work with 1 or 2 other poeple of their choice.
Students who alone are responsible for researching 1 country of Africa and creating a 2-4 page research paper, a bibliography of 5-10 resources (both print & non-print), and a project to show what they have learned about their country. They will then present it to the class.
Students who chose to work with a partner or 2 of their choice will complete their work together and all members of the group will be responsible for all parts. The main difference is that if they are working in a group they must research 2 countries in Africa and create a paper, product, and bibliography for each one and then present what they have learned about both of the countries together.

7-1 This class chose their partners and countries today. By class tomorrow, they must have a plan for what they are going to do to collect the research and begin working.

7-2 Today, we will heading to the computer lab to allow them time to research.

7-3 We will be practicing creating different types of citations for their bibs this week. I will also give them time to access encyclopedias and webpages in class today.

Friday, October 6, 2006-CROSS COUNTRY IS STILL ON!

Some updates to keep everyone in the loop-

7th Grade
***FANTASTIC PROJECTS! It was really interesting to see how many different countries we came into contact with just through our clothing. Many students (and I am sure parents) were really surprised to see how few pieces of our clothing are actually made in the United States! I am really looking forward to next week when their creative juices really start flowing.
** ALL 7TH GRADERS received their Vocabulary Test Lists yesterday or today and are to begin reviewing. It is a lot of words, but they will do a fantastic job. They have also received their study guides for the Chapter Test on Rome and it's Acquaintances and should be reviewing them over the weekend.
***CHAPTER TESTS- I will be loading the grades into Teacher Ease this weekend. The grades will be counted into the Progress Reports that are going home on Monday.

8th Grade DONT FORGET YOUR WEEK 7 JOURNALING ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE NEXT WEEK----LOOK AT YOUR CONTRACTS AND SYLLABI!

8-1 and I had great discussion regarding the quiz that was completed on Thursday. During our discussion it became known to me that there was a multiple choice question on test that caused a great deal of unrest because many read the choices quickly and therefore incorrectly. We decided that since so many students in this particular group had read the question incorrectly, there will be a three point curve added to their scores. For example, a quiz that received a score of 83 would now be an 86. I will make these changes on Teacher Ease this weekend and it will be reflected in the Progress Reports that will come home on Monday, October 9, 2006.

8-2- Excellent Class today! We got through all of lesson 3 and will finish Lesson 4 on Tuesday. They have their Chapter 2 First Half Quiz back so if parents would like to see the quiz you can ask them or you can retrieve the grades from Teacher Ease this weekend or on the Progress Reports that will come home on Monday, October 9, 2006.

8-3 Expect your new Syllabi next week. Please use the list we created and your agendas this week.

***************************************

Friday, September 29, 2006-

Due to my unexpected absence on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 some changes to our syllabus and plans for the chapter have been made.

8-3 We will finish out Lesson 1 and 2 Discussion about the Competition among Europeans for control of the America's next week. This means that your quiz is still on for the regular scheduled date, but may be moved to a later date once we finsih the review. Please BEGIN (if you haven't already) to study all of your Explorers from Lesson 1 and 2 of Chapter 2 for that quiz. There are many explorers that made an impact on the development of the colonies in the Americas and it takes a great deal of time to truly understand how much of an impact they had.

7-1 Things were a little off on the syllabus because of my unexpected absence. We had a great discussion from Teen Newsweek about the cultural difference in Afghanistan and hear and touched base on the Muslim culture which we will be studying in the next Unit. We then reviewed the main three ways that cultures came in contact with each other during the Roman Times (travel, trade and war) and reviewed our lesson 2 activities and took some notes! Great Job!
You did NOT receive your project sheet, but I do have them available and will hand them out on Monday. Your project due date is still the same as the syllabus states and I assure you it will not take more than one evening to complete the first part due next week. Don't worry. If you have any questions---shoot me an email this weekend and I will do my best to help.
